Week after Christmas in Vegas?
My husband and I were thinking about going to Vegas from Dec. 26th - 29th? What is Vegas like that time of the year (we've gone during the summer the past two years). Is it pretty dead and do they decorate for Christmas?

It's hard to say, but that SHOULD be a very good time to go because you'll just miss the crowd that was there for the Christmas weekend, and you'll be out of there before the New Years Eve crowd arrives. Plus, it's Mon. - Thurs. which are generally more quiet days in Vegas. But it's also Christmas break for all the kids, so it might be somewhat crowded with families. So it's hard to say.

The week between Christmas and New Years is generally busy, actually. There's a lot of people who come for Christmas and stay for New Years. It's also a popular time with foreign tourists.
With that being said, I don't know how it compares to the rest of the year, but there's never really a "down time" toward the end of the year. Casinos do decorate for Christmas and will leave the decorations up through New Years. Most of the decorations are on the inside - hardly anyone decorates on the outside. The Bellagio is my favorite year after year with the Christmas botanical display. |
PS - Regardless of crowds, December is such a great time to visit Vegas because you don't have to worry about the searing heat... The days are mild and the nights are surprisingly chilly, but it's still warmer than anywhere where it snows! :)

We've been celebrating mini holidays on the strip for Christmas for the past 2 years, it's very busy! Lots of Asians visit at this time and if you can get a discount book it now as there was a big hotel rate increase just from Christmas 2 yrs. ago and last year. Few families, very adult.
Hope all is well Jbee:) |
We too have found that week to be very VERY busy. Hotel rates are high and the casinos are very crowded. It would not be my first choice for a week to visit.

I forgot to mention....there are actually very few hotels that decorate for Christmas, with the exception of the Bellagio, who only decorates that garden. None of them do any kind of decorating on the outside.
