wedding site advice needed
 

My daughter wants to have a beach wedding in the San Diego area but is finding the cost prohibitive. Does anyone know of more reasonable sites she might look at? She's looking at around 110 guests, and wants to keep it simple. I wondered if some people actually rented their oceanfront homes for a day.

I am wondering about a public area like at the park above the La Jolla Cove, or in Mission Bay? Since these are public areas I don't know what the protocol is, but it might be worth checking with the city.
You might also want to think about Torrey Pines, or Del Mar (which is a smaller city and might be easier to get answers at their city hall).

Renting a ocean front home would be a cool idea. You might advertize on Craig's List. I've known people who have done this but they were close friends of the homeowners.

Are you from San Diego or would another beach community be acceptable?

My daughter and s-i-l went to a wedding in Baja that was at a beautiful winery / hotel that catered to weddings. Just another thought.

No, people will not rent their oceanfront homes for a day because most do not allow house parties and a wedding is considered a house party.

Also, it will the wear and tear is too great and they will lose the other six days rental.

Also, it takes more than one day to set up for a wedding.

My suggestion would be to hire a local wedding planner.

A wedding planner will already have ideas about where your daughter can get married within her budget.

My suggestion of keeping the costs down is to slash the amount of guests and have the wedding in the morning and do a brunch reception.

You'll get rid of a lot of extras that are expected in afternoon and evening receptions such as DJ, booze, big cakes, expensive food, etc.

The Wedding Bowl in La Jolla is very popular and its oceanfront..40 max people.
She can have her reception at Grande Colonial Hotel or La Valencia Hotel in LJ..
Also, LJ Women's Club in the village, is a wonderful place to have a wedding.

I know at the Coronado Ferry Landing, there are weddings all the time with a view of the water an ddowntown. The San Diego Union-tribune runs a article every Sunday in the currents/passages section that focuses on a person's wedding. I would check their website because I remember lots of beach weddings being featured so it might give you some ideas.

Here are more ideas:

You can rent a house in La Jolla called the Darlington House(Its where I had my receiption 20 yrs ago!!) I don't know about the current price, but you could get married on the beach then move to the Darlington House for the receiption.

Del Mar at pump house park right where 15 st. dead ends is a scence of a lot of weddings. Check with the city about whether you can hold a reception there (I have seen it being done before).

In MIssion Beach, there is a Mission Beach Womens Club where I have seen weddings before. Here is the link http://www.mbwcinfo.com/ You could have the wedding on the grass/beach right in front and then the reception at the club.

My mom lived on Coronado at The Landing and her condo directly overlooked the small public park. Several times during the weekend there would be weddings on the grass.

However, I don't think they allow chairs. I could be wrong but I don't recall ever seeing any.

It was just the ceremony and then they left for where ever.

The view is awsome with the background being across the bay and the SD skyline.

Well, we just reserved the Powerhouse in Del Mar, with a wedding outside by the ocean and the reception inside and outside (details to follow...) I am amazed and grateful at how many responses I received-- thank you one and all!
