Wedding on Long Island

I will be going to a wedding on Long Island in July - my husband hates to fly and does not want to fly into the Long Island airport because we would have to change planes too many times. What airport is the best to fly in to with less hassle getting to Long Island - JFK, Laguardia, or Newark? And do we rent a car? Thanks.

Hi Deb:
Where on LI is the wedding?
LAG or JFK are both ok for commuting to LI. But I prefer LAG just for the ease of getting in and out of. Definitely not Newark!
You can rent a car at either airport and I suggest you do. Luggage, etc would be easier with a car.
Let us know which town and better information will follow.

We are staying at the Marriott in Melville. So it sounds like Laguardia is the easiest!

Definelty LGA or JFK;New wark is very inconvient to LI; most LI'ers try very hard to avoid Newark when flying; the problem is Manhattan is in the way from getting from Newark to LI!
BTW, for what it's worth both JFK and LGA are actually on LI, although they are in Queens, which is part of NYC, as opposed to Nassau County.

Agree with above but have to add...
leave yourself plenty of time. Traffic can be horrendous here!!

I'm a Queens boy who stayed at the Melville Marriott many times (including two days for my own wedding in 1998). JFK or LGA doesn't really matter. If you save minutes on your trip by flying into LGA, you may lose an hour waiting for your plane to take off. I now live in Manhattan, 15 minutes from LGA and I drive an extra 1/2 hour to JFK because the on time rate (and no one can validly argue with this because it isn't even close...) is much higher for JFK than LGA or EWR.

laguardia is the quickest airport. but what about islip mac arthur airport to fly into.

I have considered Islip, but there are more flights into JFK and LGA. When I looked at the driving directions ISP was 20 mi, JFK 30 mi, and LGA 30 mi. So with more options on flights and a cheaper fare - I'll go with JFK or LGA! Thanks everyone for your help!
