Wedding in Jackson Square NO

I'm a native New Orleanian who has moved away to San Diego. I am also recently engaged and my fiance and I wish to marry in Jackson Square in New Orleans. Can anyone tell me which governmental/city agency I must approach to get a permit to hold a wedding in Jackson Square?

Thanks in advance!
erica

The City of New Orleans website may help. If you can't find what you need, I've had pretty good luck sending an e-mail to the "contact" person, who is happy to forward the e-mail to the right department.

http://www.new-orleans.la.us/

(I'm not sure you need a permit for a simple ceremony, but if you do then the Dept. of Revenue would be a good start)

Congrats!

Yes you need a permit, I have done several this past spring there. The permit is free but you need to get one as they control the number and time, otherwise there would be a rush in the square. I never had anyone ask for the permit but always have it ready as the police walk around the Square a lot.

Dr. Ken, thanks for the info. I'm surprised the permit is free but that's a good thing, of course. Do you know which department at City Hall handles this?

Thanks for all the helpful advice. After LOTS of calling and web-surfing, I found that the Department of Parks and Parkways issues permits. In order to get a permit, you must send a letter to the Department detailing the number of guests and anticipated date/time.

I have not yet received a reply to my request. Let's hope my fiance' and I can get it! Reception being planned at the W Hotel. I just thought I'd mention it because the staff is great! Very knowledgeable and helpful.

Thanks to John and Dr. Ken for all their help!

Happy 2002,
erica
