Wedding
A friend wants to have an island wedding in November of this year. Any recommendations?
|
I'd pick an island that's owned by the U.S. so they don't have to get a bunch of confusing legal papers beforehand! Other tahn that, I haven't been to any islands, but my SIL says she likes St. Martin and St. Lucias (sp). Good luck!
Scarlette

Pick the best island Manhattan!
|
Ooooh! I second the idea of Manhattan! Get married at one of the gorgeous churches, have your reception in some swanky locale (The Plaza maybe??) spend the night at the Pierre, and fly off to some romantic caribbean resort the next day!

Considering November is part of Hurricane season, I'd pick an island out of the hurricane belt - Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, or Hawaii.

Could you be a little more specific?

There's Rhode Island, Roosevelt Island, Prince Edward Island, Catalina Island, the Virgin Islands, Long Island, Staten Island, Coney Island, and Ellis Island.

And don't forget my favorite wedding spot--Riker's Island.

Thanks for the replies. She is thinking more along the lines of Caribbean Islands.

If anyone has been to a caribbean island wedding or got married on a caribbean island, let me know.

While we ended up getting married in Las Vegas (which was wonderful!! - Bellagio, the most awesome place) - I did extensive research in the Caribbean and Hawaii. Obviously, Hawaii would be the easiest - but many of the islands have special packages (which I would recommend researching). As a previous poster said - some islands are almost impossible due to residency restrictions, etc - but many of the islands can do a really nice job. One place your friend might want to look into is a Sandals resort. They specialize in this sort of thing. If you look up Caribbean weddings - or go to any of the websites for any large resort - there will be information on what's needed to do a wedding. While I agree that November could be a bad time for the Caribbean - if you aim for the end of November - you should be fine.

Just a note. If she is looking at the end of November to avoid hurricane season, the flights and hotels at that time of year are at their peak, and sometimes hard to come by. She would be looking at just before Thanksgiving and into December. Lots of black-out dates for mile users, and many of the lower priced seats are gone already. Need to keep that in mind as a courtesy to her guests who may be paying for 2, 3 or 4 people in a family to come to the wedding.
