Website For Understanding Cultures in A Foreign Country?

Different cultures have different do's and don'ts. What might be fine in one country, would be a total insult to someone living in another country. That could be said for clothing, gestures, etc. Is there a website I can go to that will let me know those kinds of things?

I haven't seen such a website, but the "Culture Shock!" books are pretty good. Unfortunately there is a different one for each country.

You already found it! Just go to the Europe or Asia or Africa/Middle East boards here on Fodor's and ask your questions or search on the topic.

Hi bardo, out of curiosity I went to the website and clicked on Italy.

One interesting bit of information: Slacks are not generally worn by either sex.

I wonder what they think Italian men wear, LOL.

You have to take these kinds of websites with a grain of salt--they are often full of sweeping generalizations that seem very dated to me especially with regards to Asian and Arab cultures. Newer generations in most countries have adapted to different standards than their more traditional parents and grandparents.

Having said that, I know I've seen sites like this put out by colleges where students study International Relations that seem good, sorry I can't think of the specifics.
I also like the Culture Shock books and a book called "Kiss, Bow, or Shake Hands: How to Do Business in Sixty Countries"
