Weather NYC this weekend; RAIN??
I have look at two different weather pages; l. says chance of rain for August 31-Sept. 2 is around 30%. 2. Says chance of rain near 60%.
We will be arriving late night Friday for the Labor Day weekend. I have put much planning into this trip so I know we will just go on as planned rain or shine.
Just want to make sure we bring the right kind of attire for rain; and I am not much in favor of walking around with an umbrella in the crowds on the sidewalk.
Could some of you New Yorkers let me know about the weather. Since two sites had such different info. I am curious as to what is fact and what is fiction.
Thanks in advance.

Actually the rainy weather is predicted for Thursday and Friday, the weekend looks fine with temps in the high 70's and low 80's. Perfect sightseeing weather, sure beats the 90's with high humidity. "Chance of Showers" is not a big deal. I like the weatherunderground as a reliable source, here's what they have to say:
Saturday
Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers. Highs near 80.
Sunday
A chance of showers during the day...otherwise partly cloudy. Lows in the upper 60s and highs in the upper 70s.
Labor Day
Partly cloudy. Lows in the upper 60s and highs in the lower 80s

I went to weather on Yahoo for my zip code in manhattan and found rain, rain, and more rain, with thunderstorms likely on monday. Wear closed shoes and bring a lightweight rain jacket with a hood if you don't want to bring an umbrella. Also, a baseball cap is good for just a light drizzle. Just keep in mind that it is a bit harder to get a cab in the rain, especially at about 4:00 to 5:00 pm during the shift change.

Susan, we all see/hear/read the same weather sites that you do (and the weather people on TV and radio use the same sources) so we don't have any more idea "what is fact and what is fiction " than you do.
Weather in NY is changeable. Pack a small folding umbrella and carry it around (unless it's bright and sunny when you leave the hotel and you're just going out for a few minutes)--no doubt just like you'd do at home.
Enough said...

You know the old story: Carry the umbrella and it won't rain. Leave it in the room and it will pour!
Just don't wear good sandals. One they get wet, they are ruined. Take a light weight windbreaker as the air conditioningon the buses and in the movie theatres can be bone-chillingly cold.
