weather in September in San Fransisco...,
Planning a trip for September, whats the weather like and plan to go to carmel, vegas, yosemite and grand canyon, where's best to see etc.,
|
Warmest time of year ever. Best to see? Yosemite. Or the view of the city from Harry Denton's Starlight Room on Union Square. If not Hurricane Point at Big Sur. But the Grand Canyon can't be beat.
|
Best weather in The City is last two weeks of Sept & first 2 weeks of October. Very early Sept can get some fog, or it could be fantastic.

Vegas will be baking hot.

We have reservations for San Francisco in Aug. for 3 nights. I hope the weather will be good then too, as we'll be celebrating my husband's birthday.

sunshine - August, unfortunately, can be guaranteed to be quite foggy. I joke that this past August, I don't think the sun came out once (which is probably not true)! There may be days where the fog burns off in the afternoon and some days the fog doesn't burn off at all. Just be prepared with layers and jackets for the evening! Also, note that certain neighborhoods in the city have less fog than others (i.e., mission, noe valley, etc.). Don't worry, it will still be great and I could turn out to be wrong!

True - but at about 3:00pm, the ole Noe Valley wind picks up and blows through all the fog on Twin Peaks and makes things quite cool. I once had the whipped cream topping blown of my Bud's Hot Fudge Sunday, as I rounded the corner from Castro onto Jersey St and the wind hit me full force coming down off Twin Peaks. Stu Dudley |
Sorry to disappoint! I'm a native and we get fogged in usually from the 4th of July until Labor Day. That means it can be as cold at the low 60's!
Bring jackets. Usually it sunnies up by Sept and we get in the 70's |
I'll see if my husband wants to go there in Sept. instead. Thanks for the info everyone.

It can vary from year to year. SF can be foggy Labor day, or sunny and warm. I was there in 02 on LD weekend. Mid 80's for highs and no fog. With the places you are going, do plan a varied layered wardrobe. Hot in Vegas, warm days & cool nights in Yosemite. Unpredictable in Carmel & SF. I'm not that familiar with Grand Canyon weather.

I love San Francisco in September! The weather is quite variable - all through the day. Warm when the sun is shining, cooler when there's a good breeze, nearly freezing the minute the sun goes down.

Stu Dudley:
Your Bud's memory made me laugh. Once, when I was a child, I was in the Bell's supermarket on 24th with my uncle and we ran into the original Mr. Bud himself in the produce section. He was buying all the over-ripe bananas for his ice cream. |
Several years ago my aunt came out from Pennsylvania for a visit in August. When she was packing for the trip, a friend who was over at the time was absolutely amazed to see her packing jeans, fleece sweatershirt, etc to go to "sunny California".
