Weather in Santa Fe? Going on July 6th

We are going to be in Santa Fe on July 6th -11th could someone please tell me what the weather has been like.
I have been looing at the weather channel and they say the temps. have been in the 80's during the day and the 50's in the evening.
If this is true it is alot cooler then I expected. I was prepared to pack for weather in the 90's and up.
Will i need to bring some kind of sweater?
We're from NJ and it is really hot and humid here now- I know there is less humidity in NM so thats why i'm confused on how hot it will really be?????
thanks in advance,
Denise

Denise,

Here's the national weather service link:

Santa Fe seems to be a lot cooler than the rest of the southwest - mostly because of the altitude, but it also has to do with the trade winds. It gets 30-50 degrees cooler at night, which doesn't normally happen in the northeast. This is due to the lack of trees.

I'm from Michigan and 90 here is hot & sticky. 90 there is hot, but tolerable. The humidity really does make a difference.

And if it does rain, which is very common this time of year, it usually doesn't last more than an hour or so.

My advice - dress in layers - you'll be changing often. And have fun in one of my favorite states!

I was in Santa Fe last August and the heat wasn't that bad. I had also read before going that Santa Fe wasn't was hot as other places because of the altitude. We had some rain one afternoon but it didn't last very long.

My friend who is there now has been watching the weather from West Texas newspapers and she said it's been in the 70s. I think this is unusal for Santa Fe. I was there last July 4 and it was pretty hot -- more like 90s. It should be totally divine! Have fun!

Denise,
The weather in Santa Fe: looks like it will be in the mid 70's during the day. The altitute and sun can make it seem warmer, but it most likely will not be "HOT". Dressing in layers is the way to go, especially if you start out early in the morning and are out all day.

The temps drop about 20 degrees at night, so a sweater is definitely a plus.

It is also the start of "Monsoon" season here in the SW. While it sounds terrible [we here are desperately awaiting the rains] it isn't all that bad. Dark clouds usually roll in around late afternoon. You can see them coming and therefore you shouldn't get "caught" in the rain. The rain is usually heavy and short-lived.

Unlike the Northeast [where I used to live], after the rain, the temps drops, the water drys almost instantly and there is no [jump] in humidity. Just fresh clean cool air! NO sauna's here except in a spa!

Hope this helps...
