Lisa,
So Cal is not necessarily a warm spot 365 a year. We do get cooler weather, but compared to other states, it's usually much warmer.
The 59 degrees you saw for today is because there is a storm coming in sometime tomorrow, so the air is rather cold and damp.
January and February are the coldest months for So. Cal. If the temps reach the upper 70s, it's a heat wave. So, I would consider temps somewhere in the 60s to lower 70s, with nightime lows into the 40s and 50s. We can get down into the 30s on occasion in the evening.
Your best bet for clothing is layering (t-shirt under sweatshirt or sweater), as the day may start off cool and warm up as it goes on. Definitely plan for rain - light raingear and small umbrella will suffice.
Hope that helps.
Michele
