Weather in NYC in November?

If I visit NYC in the first week of November, what kind of weather can I expect?

Gwendolynn Aug 23rd, 2009 01:56 PM

Almost anything.... I know that's a terrible answer... but we've had snowy Novembers and very warm Novembers. Predicting the weather at that time seems to get dicier every year.

It's extraordinarily rare for us to see measurable snowfall in NYC before Thanksgiving. I can't remember it happening in my 20 years of living here. You will likely find cool or cold temps in the daytime (no higher than 50s and 40s possible). It could rain, and it could fall below freezing at night, though this doesn't always happen here until mid-November.

More recently, we've had rather moderate weather in early November, so don't count on cold temps, but they are very likely.

Was there last november. Sunny down here in DC and in the 60's. And it was rainy and damp in the 40's and lower 50's in NYC.

It can be rainy in November.

It also can be really warm. A few years ago I was there in early November and was so hot that I stopped at a Gap store, bought a short sleeved tee shirt, and changed into it there. Bob, check the weather report just before you come.

Hi montereybob - I suggest that before you leave home, check with weather.com for a 10 day forecast. Although it's not always accurate when it comes to precipitation, at least you'll get a decent idea of temperature.

Doug - we had a major snowstorm on Thanksgiving approx 21 years ago. I remember it very clearly. We first we were at someone's apartment on Broadway in the 50's. It was so miserable, no one wanted to go on the terrace to watch the parade. Then we drove out to Centereach, LI for Thanksgiving dinner and it took over three hours of hazardous driving! Fortunately, that was a very rare occurrence. Sorry you missed it though!

Snow is very unlikely. (More than a couple o finches before Christmas is rare.) You can have warmish temps during the day - in the 50's - or chilly - low 40's or even high 30's - and it will be colder at night. If you're here several days some rain is likely. I almost never wear a winter coat in November - but stick to either a lined raincoat or my leather jacket (not a blazer but a mid thigh length substantial leather).
