Weather in New Orleans in June

I am taking my mother to New Orleans in the end of June. It will be her first time to NOLA and my second. I was there in Feb and really loved it so I am very excited to go back. We have never been there in the summer so I was just wondering if anyone could give me an idea of how it will be with the humidity. Please be as detailed as possible. We have been living in Phoenix Az for 39 years so we are no stranger to HOT but not the humidity.
Thanks and have a great day, mscmkr

mscmkr,

I have been to Las Vegas when it was 119, so I know what dry heat feels like. New Orleans will be nowhere near those temperature levels. The hottest it might get that time of year is 95, but usually is upper 80's to low 90's.

The humidity will be high that time of year, with highest humidity levels in the evening/night/morning when the temps are coolest. What this means is that the biggest difference from where you're from is that the night doesn't really cool down all that much.

Make sure your hotel has a pool. I would plan some pool time each day to cool off by the pool and relax.

Since you're from Phoenix, I don't think you'll have much of a problem with New Orleans in June.

Just get used to your clothes sticking too you, as soon as you walk outside your hotel.

Yep, hot and VERY humid. Can get some breezes off the Lake and/or Gulf along with those periodic thunderstorms. Still, it wouldn't keep me from going!

Specifically, last time I was in NO in June, the temperature at 6AM was 80 degrees, and the humidity condensed on the hotel window looked like fog.

The afternoon thunderstorms, real downpours, are a reality, but it is usually fairly pleasant for the evening after they pass through.

Oh my gosh, the combo of heat and humidity in the NO summer months is awful! Though I think August and September are worse, any summer month is bad. Yes, I've been in Las Vegas with temps in the 110+ range, but I was comfortable walking outside in that dry air.

My summer trips in NO have left me with a difficult time catching my breath. Had we not been going on business, there's no way my husband and I would've chosen that time of year.

I might add that we love NO and have been visiting regularly for 40 years...just not in the summer.

Hurricane season doesn't peak until mid September. You will only rarely get hurricanes in June or July. August and September are different stories.

New Orleans is having a heat wave right now, with temps expected to be 100 today and the next few days. The afternoon thunderstorms have been suppressed by a big ridge of high pressure so that's keeping things hotter and drier than normal.

Just came back, yet, hot, hot, hot and humid, humid, humid, even the nights were steamy. Take the suggestion of finding a hotel w/a nice pool, our didn't, but friends of ours did, so I ended up over there in the late pm to hang out and cool down (ha).
