Weather in May

Can't find any information on the weather in May, I have two friends that want to go for Memorial weekend (for about 4 days) but don't like the cold. Can anyone give me an estimate for the weather. Thank you for your assitance.

Wel - you don't say exactly where you're going - but I an't imagine that anyplace in Illinois is cold in May - except in comparison with the tropics.

Basically, the further south you go the warmer it will be - from California to Florida. Pick a southern state that you'd like to visit.

What part of Illinois are you going to and what part of May? By mid to late May, we'll most likely have nice weather in Northern Illinois.
Also, what temp is cold to you?

Just read that you said Memorial Day weekend, weather should be warm by then, but since it's still Spring, you never know.

The weather in the Midwest can go from cold/rainy, nice or humid/icky for Memorial Day Weekend. I lived in Indianapolis for years and you never know what you will get. There were years where people at the Indianapolis 500 had to buy sweatshirts it was so cold or were miserable in 90 degree plus heat. One year a tornado touched down at the end of the race. Needless to say, I don't live there anymore and the weather is a big reason why I don't

I always use www.weather.com--click on travel planner.
You can type in a 2 week span of time and it will give
averages for 20 years..of course these are still subject to seasonal "flukes" . Example--SF 90degrees, few years later 55..
Even southwest gets rain storms this time of year..

First thanks for all the responses. Second am very sorry for the vague description, they want to go to Chicago as mentioned before for Memorial Weekend and we live in Miami, Florida and anything under 60 is freezing for one of them again thank you.

If anything less than 60 is freezing for one of them you definitely need to bring some sweater/layers. The weather might be hot - or it might be sesonable (meaning coolish at night, possibly damps and with breezes off the lake).

(It never ocurred to me that anyone would think 60 is cold. Cold is less than 40.)

I'm cold when it goes below 60. I'm freezing when it goes below 40.

To the OP, of course its changeable....I was in Chicago for 10 days in May one year and it went from glorious (high 70s) to nasty (maybe 40s).

Again thank you for all your help I will forward your information and let them decide. Personally I enjoy the cold weather specially here when we don't really get any.

As everyone else noted, Chicago's weather is often unpredictable. However, having lived in Chicago my entire life, by Memorial Day, the weather tends to be pretty warm! (60s).

Actually come to think of it... last Memorial Day was so nice I bbq-ed at the park... in a skirt and tank top! So maybe even warmer!
