Weather for AZ/UT Motorcycle Vacation

My husband and I plan to take a week to travel by motorcycle to Grand Canyon North Rim, Lake Powell, Monument Valley, Bryce & Zion this year. I am debating if mid-September might be a little too chilly in some of those locations to be on a bike (wind chill effect). Any opinions from seasoned travelers?

Dayle Mar 30th, 2004 10:39 AM

Turquoise,

Mid-Sept will still be hot in those areas. Bryce Canyon is at 8,000 ft., so it might be a little cool on a bike.

Have fun!

Thank you Dayle! It should be a great trip!

TourquoiseWaters,

Take rain gear. Thunderstorms can pop up at any time! September should be warm to hot in most of those areas.

My husband and I and another couple are taking a similar motorcycle trip the end of May. We will be riding out of Northern California to Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Sedona, Zion and Bryce and across Hwy. 50 in Nevada to Lake Tahoe. Any ideas about the weather in late May/early June in the Sedona, Zion/Bryce area? Thanks!

To Chico,

Late May should be nice. We've been in the area and had very warm temps BUT once while in Bryce & Zion on Memorial Day weekend it snowed. Watch the weather.com before you leave, they should be able to give you a 10 day forcast for the region so you will be better able to tell what to expect.

Crossing Nevada on Hwy 50 is fun. Make sure you pick up an "I Survied Hwy 50 Survial Kit" in Ely, Nevada. It's one of my favorite routes thought Nevada, BUT you can run into thunderstorms and the towns are few and far apart. Please take rain gear. The last time we crossed in Mid-May it was COLD! June should be warmer.

Utahtea - thanks for the advice on rain gear - I looked at your web site with all your travel pictures. Absolutely gorgeous - what wonderful trips you have taken! I especially loved the pictures you took from Horseshoe Bend at Lake Powell!

TourquoiseWaters,

Thank you. That was the one place I could have killed my DH for not letting me bring the 35MM camera on our trip. It had a wider angle lens than the digital camera.

For all the times we've been to Lake Powell, that was our first time to Horseshoe Bend...but I'm going back with my wide angel lense next time!

Thank you for your useful information regarding our upcoming motorcycle venture. We will plan on taking rain gear (although it takes up a lot of valuable space). If you know of any great, obsure roads for motorcycling let me know. I do appreciate all your knowledge of the Southwest. Your information on this site in the past few months has helped me immensely.
Thank you!
