Hi we shall be coming over from England and arriving in Atlantic City October 3rd. Can anyone give an idea of what sort of weather we can expect. Will it be warm enough for Summer clothes or do we need to pack for cooler weather. Hope someone can help.

It's probably early fall - you'll need some sort of light jacket but it won;t be cold - perhaps a little chilly at night.

But - this really isn;t much of an issue since AC is all indoors (really nothing much but gambling to do). Is this your whole trip or are you going other places?

and you do know this is nothing like Vegas? Just a truly tacky town built around a few casinos.

Thanks nytraveler for your helpful reply. We shall be in AC for 4 days and then leaving for a weeks cruise to Bermuda. After that we will be in New York for 4 days and then back to England where we shall definitely need winter woollies. AC might not be like Vegas which is just as well because we lost money there maybe we will have more luck in AC

As a Jersey girl, I'll give you the same advice you'd give me if I asked what to pack for England: Plan to wear layers.
It could be sufficiently balmy on the Boardwalk to stroll in shorts and a T-shirt during the day; it could just as easily be chilly, rainy and windy. You'll definitely need a jacket once the sun goes down. The beach will be closed, as will the beach bars.
If the weather is really lousy, you can venture from Caesars to Bally's Wild West, to Park Place, Claridge and Sands casinos without ever venturing outside. You can also shop in the new, upscale, mall that is attached to Caesars.

Thanks vcl for your advice regarding the clothes we need to pack, we can live in hope though that AC might be warmer than England in October. I`m sure we will have a good time whatever the weather.

You just never know about the weather. It could be "normal", unexpectedly chilly, or and "Indian Summer" heat wave. Or, even, one day this, next day that.

Check the 10/15 day forecast just before leaving and finalizing your packing at www.weather.com or www.accuweather.com

I've found both to be fairly reliable, but you should still plan for warmer or cooler.

Nice to have along for a waterfront destination in October, and on your cruise ship, would be a windproof/waterproof jacket/coat with hood and a polartec jacket that fits nicely underneath. One or the other or both are especially comfortable for enjoying the outdoor decks of the ship.

There are so many beautiful places to go on the East Coast of the US for 4 days in early October, why oh why are you going to Atlantic City?!! Have you been to Washington DC? To Boston? To Newport Rhode Island? To Cape Cod? To Vermont or New Hampshire? To the Brandywine are of Pennslyvania? To the St Michaels area of Maryland? To Annanpolis Maryland? To Niagra Falls even?! To me, this is like going to Blackpool for 4 days when you could go to the Cotswolds....(and believe me Blackpool is actually far nicer.)

Was part of this thread removed for some reason? Maybe the part where Merlin asked for suggestions on where to go in the US or for opinions on their choice of destination?

I agree with Neo..What is the point in questioning a person when they ask for specific advice..why try to talk people out of their plans?

Meanwhile, I got sidetracked from my own answer for Merlin...
The air conditioning in the hotels and Casinos is always set too high IMO..I always need light sweaters in these places! It is also usually windy because everything is built right on the Boardwalk/beach. It can also be damp at night or rainy , so a light jacket is a good idea. You will need it when you come back to NY anyway.
So I would pack a couple of sweaters but I don't think you should expect to wear winter woolies in NY in Oct..there will be a crispness to the air but not winter yet!

And if we're going to play detective about the goal of the trip, something tells me from the &quot;losing money in Vegas&quot; comment that a major reason for the AC visit just might be gambling. That's not a major draw at any of the other destinations you've listed, Cicerone.

Hi Folks, thank you all for your help . Please don`t argue amongst yourselves as we appreciate all comments and to be honest am not quite sure why we decided on AC. I think because my husband and our friends like to gamble and because the casino on the ship is closed when in dock ( which is quite a lot of the time ) they thought they`d try their luck before we joined the cruise..
Once again thank you all for your help and advice and if you see 2 middle aged English couples trying to recoup their losses at the casinos by busking it will be us. ome over and say &quot;Hi &quot;.

You will no doubt want to stroll along the boardwalk, and that will be cool &amp; breezy at night, even if the days turn out to be hot. If you end up needing some more or different clothing than you bring, there are outlet malls 2 blocks from the hotel, and lots of cheap shops along the boardwalk with sweatshirts for $5, or so! So,don't worry if you end up needing a last minute pair or shorts or a sweatshirt, etc, because you can find some for cheap in the stores. Enjoy, and check out some shows while you're in town.
