We have changed our plans and need advice!

We have decided to cancel our booking at SLC following a really bad report on where we had booked to stay. I already had misgivings at having to undertake the journey from Jackson to SLC on what will be my special day (big birthday!!) and was regretting not staying longer than the one night in Jackson.

We have now requested a second night in Jackson and also an extra night in Moab (which somebody on Foders had suggested previously). This means we have a one night stop from Jackson to Moab. We would still like to drive the route to Bear Lake though.

Can anyone suggest what would be our best route from Bear Lake to Moab and also where might be a reasonable stop over for the one night?

Many thanks.

Dot

Hi Dotty,

I don't remember where you were going to stay that got such bad reviews. Why not just stay somewhere else in SLC?

Your decision to add a night each to Jackson and Moab, though is a very good one!

If you are planning to drive from Bear Lake to Moab, I really can't say there is any where really special to stay half way, unless you go out of your way to Capitol Reef Natl Park.

Hi Dayle - We had booked in at My Little Cottage in SLC for three nights. Apart from the awful review we read (I know you can't always rely on the reviews as opinion can differ quite markedly) we did feel that just one night in Jackson probably wouldn't be enough and also we would be better staying three rather than the two nights in Moab This only leaves us with one night on the way from Jackson to Moab. We then felt that perhaps just the one night stop-over in SLC may not be the best option and perhaps we would be better taking a different route. However, as stated previously, I was quite looking forward to travelling through Bear Lake.

Your comments are much appreciated and any advice you can offer would be very welcome as always.

Best wishes
Dot

Hi Dotty,

If your objective is to divide your drive into half, then the Salt Lake Valley will be your official half way point. That is if you take the Bear Lake route and on down Logan Canyon which is also very beautiful.

I looked at the property, My Little Cottage, and it's very old historical building remodeled. No, I wouldn't bet on it either and I'm not wild about that location.

There are lots of other nice B&Bs in SLC if that is what you want.

Another possibility would be to drive 30 minutes east to my town, Park City and stay there. It's a quaint town and has lots of lodging options, condos, hotels, B&Bs. Paradise in the summer.

Alternatively, you could drive via Bear Lake (which is on the west side of the lake), but then cut off and drive south on Hwy 89 through Evanston, WY and arrive at Park City too. You would miss Logan Canyon, but this is shorter and not as windy a road.

Thanks Dayle. You have made me feel that we have probably done the right thing in changing our plans and also given us several options to consider. My only thought was that as we only have the one night to spare before moving on we are not going to have much time to spend in SLC or whereever.
Will let you know what we decide!

Regards,
Dot
