WDW Something Diffrent
Hello All,
Heading down to Walt Disney World first week of Feburary. We've been many times over the years and are looking for something diffrent to do both in and out of the parks. Any suggestions for two 40+ couple to do? Thanks To All |
I like to eat at the Boston Lobster Feast while in Orlando! Can't beat all you can eat lobster!:)
|
Outside the park - there is one of those wind tunnels that simulate sky diving. Might be fun. The Sea Word "beach" park Discovery Cove is very nice and has an interesting aviary.
Have you eaten at Jiko at the Animal Kingdom and/or Calif Grill at the Contemporary? If you've never "done" tea at Grand Floridian, that's fun, too. You could visit one of the nice spas at either The Ritz/GW or Canyon Ranch at Gaylord. Try a new (to you) sport... golf? horseback riding? kayaking? |
Take one of the Backstage Tours. YOu can read about them on AllEarsNet.com
|
Each park has different "backstage" tours available, I think they're called "Behind the Magic." The one I'd like to take is the steam train program at MK.
Outside WDW you could take a day in Winter Park, Fla. (search the forum, it's been discussed recently), or an airboat ride, or visit Sea World, or Kennedy Space Center, or a number of central Fla. attractions/sites. |
Go see the manatees in their natural setting at Blue Springs Park in Orange City. The exit for it off of I-4 is about 30 minutes north of downtown Orlando.
|
Have you ever done a Segway Tour at Epcot? That was the most fun we've ever had at WDW.
|
Should also suggest Leu Gardens in Orlando. See - www.leugardens.org. Just gorgeous!
|
bnbtraveler, are the manatees there year-round? Or do they "go south" in cooler months?
|
I don't mean to steal bnbtraveler's thunder, but the answer to your question is that they are there during the cooler winter months only.
When the water temperature of the St. John's river gets too cool, they migrate to the Blue Spring run where the temps remain a constant 72 degrees. |
You could combine a trip to Leu Gardens with a day in Winter Park (Leu Gardens is beautiful in February - the camellias and roses particularly). Don't miss the Morse Museum in Winter Park (www.morsemuseum.org), and the boat tour of the lakes in WP is also fun and interesting.
If you're still in the area on February 12th, the space shuttle is scheduled to launch that day. |
The big manatee festival is 1/24-25 so they are there now, and stay until it gets warmer in the ocean. So, of course, it depends on the weather but I feel confident they will still be there for your February trip. Thanks OrlandoVic...you didn't steal my thunder. We are all here to help with what we know...
|
Thanks, Vic and bnb, we need to check out the manatees sometime.
|
Do you dive? They take scuba divers into the reef at Epcot. It was very cool. :)
