WDW Resorts
Am visiting Walt Disney World Resort in June. Would like a recommendation on a good hotel to stay on property. am debating between Polynesian and Wilderness Lodge
|
Wilderness Lodge is nicer and newer. Check disneyinfo.com for reviews.
|
Wilderness Lodge is absolutely great. Have stayed there twice. Polynesian is getting a bit old and looks it. Go to the Luau at night for a 'taste' of the Poly. but stay at the W.L. You will not regret your decision.

The Wilderness Lodge is a gorgeous place. We made a mistake by not returning there the last time we went. We thought we'd check out a new resort each time we went, but we pined for the Wilderness Lodge and actually kept sneaking over there for meals.

I understand that the rooms at the Polynesian are somewhat larger than the Wilderness Lodge. They have a sofa in each room which can actually sleep an extra person.

James-Both resorts are beautiful, but are completely different. I agree with the above post to check disneyinfo.com. It's a wonderful site for all kinds of info. If you have small children and will be spending a lot of time at Magic Kingdom, you might want to stay at the Poly. since its on the MK monoratil line. You can also walk less than 10 minutes to the Ticket & Transportation Center and catch the monorail to EPCOT. We have stayed at the Poly 2 times in the last three years and absolutely loved it. It is themed like the South sea islands and is located across Seven Seas Lagoon from MK. It has a lovely white sand beach where you can watch the fireworks at night. But if you like the quiet and beauty of the Rocky mountains, WL may be for you. It is very well thought of and is a beautiful resort. I have also heard that the rooms are somewhat smaller. It really just depends on your particular taste. The rooms at the Poly were completely renovated 1997-1998, so the fact that is is an older resort shouldn't concern you. The pool area is nice with a really cool waterslide, but not a elaborate as some of the newer properties. Most afternoons, Goofy, Pluto and Max jet ski over to play in the pool (yes in full costume!) with the kids. I'm sure they do this at some of the other resorts as well.
Last year we had a lagoon view room which meant that we could see MK from our balcony. I understand that some non-lagoon rooms still have a good view of the fireworks. Lastly, if you are planning to visit this June, you need to get your reservations ASAP. Many properties book up months in advance. You may not have as much trouble getting a reservation at the Poly or WL since they are both Deluxe resorts, but the budget and moderates book up VERY quickly. Hope this helps. I don't think you will be disappointed with either resort. Plus you will be at Disney! If you have questions re the Poly you can email me directly. I'll try to help. Also, be sure to check the disneyinfo site.

Ginger

How original.
|
Noah, when did you last visit Disney? We know you have your opinions, and we respect your right to post, but what is your personal experience on this one?

|
Noah's straying off topic. (Noah: please see original post and try to stay on track with the rest of us.)

We had stayed at the Port Orleans and had wandered over to the Wilderness Lodge for dinner one night. We were absolutely in awe of the architecture of the place and its ambience. After a long day at WDW, we much preferred going back to the WL. However, it was full...next time...

I'm wondering if you made a decision as to where you'll stay, James. Give a holler when you get a chance.
|
Everyone has given you great suggestions, try an architecture tour, there is a shop in the Hancock building that sells tickets. Some are short and give you another view of the city. Also, stop at Garrets (on Michigan) for their delicious carmel corn, yes the line is usually long but it moves quickly and is worth the wait.
