susan and uconn--thanks for your advice; it is funny, because initially I thought, no way this works out, but it does so we signed up.

We have made all our reservations and are now learning the intricacies of FastPass!!

Thanks again; UConn--my parents are Huskies fans (luckily for them this year they like to follow the women's team).

You're welcome. One thing I forgot to mention is that there are some restaurants where paying out of pocket makes sense. We got stuck one day eating at the MCDonald's at Animal Kingdom. The prices were basically the same as any McD's, so we paid cahs and saved the credits for other breakfasts/lunches. We had dinner one night at the Drive-In restaurant at MGM. It was relatively cheap for a sit down meal. We used the extra credits to eat one night @ the restaurant at the Wilderness Lodge (required two credits/person). Even there, we used the credits for the expensive adult meals and paid cash for the cheap kids meals.

The big thing to know about FastPass is that you can only get 1 at a time, so you need to choose which ones to get judicially. At Epcot, I would suggest getting one for Soarin' first. It is a great ride, very popular, and the FastPasses for the day sell out by mid afternoon. At MGM, you probably want to use it for Tower of Terror or the Star Wars ride. There isn't one particular ride that stands out at the Magic Kingdom.
