waterfront summer rental for 07?

After a few sweaty months in the city, I'm already daydreaming about renting a house for a month next summer. I'd love to be on the coast (preferably ocean--an island in Maine would be my fantasy--but lake will do), nowhere touristy, nothing fancy, just a functional kitchen and 1 bedroom. Oh, and within a couple of days' drive from Boston. Is it possible to do this for less than $2000 for the month?

Your budget should be $2000 per week not month unless you are willing to go off season.

Owners only have about 12 weeks to max out rentals.

There are plenty of places here in Michigan for around $600-800 per week either on Lake Michigan or one of many inland lakes. It's probably a little less expensive here than in Maine. Let me know if you're interested in driving this far and I can give you some good areas to visit.

look at Prince Edward Island. Not too far from Boston (you could do it in one very long day, or overnight in New Brunswick), and the prices are a little better than around here.

Not sure if you can do it for $2000/month on the coast, but look around. It might be possible. There are lots of rentals up there. We were there fora week in mid August, and much of it was not touristy at all.

$2100 per month and on the water.

(I thought you wanted something a couple of hours drive from Boston not a couple of days)

travel addict - would love to know where to find Lake Michigan rentals for $600-$800 during summer. We considered a Lake Michigan rental this past summer and we didn't see anything in the price range on the Lake. Any info you can provide would be wonderful!

You might be able to find something for the month of June, or September (recommended).....but in July and August the prices triple.

Here's a typical rental...not even on the waterfront just nearby....no ocean views. This one's not what you want I know, it's just a mile from a very touristy area...but to give you an idea of prices etc

lake winnipasauke (can't spell it) is a lake in NH and is located a couple of hours north of Boston.
We vacationed there every summer in the 1970's . Piping Rock Resort in Wolfeboro has cabins that are not very expensive to rent and are located on a hill looking over the lake. It has a private beach and dock if you rent a boat. The town of Wolfeboro(to my knowledge) is still a town without a lot of commercialism.
I just checked their website and the cost for a two bedroom cottage is about 1050 for a week. You can rent a motel room with kitchenette for 800-900 per week. Good luck
Oh and we haven't been there since the late 70's so I have no idea what shape these cottages are in.

tracy2cents...what a place! For 1500/wk you get pink frilly curtains in the living room as well as two windows in the same room with a print drape, baby blue for the kitchen to go with the baby blue walls, and the renter gets to provide all the sheets and towels. No housekeeping. They do provide <u>color</u> TV though. Wow. And people complain about hotel prices? I think I need to save that link. LOL

hi, i live in central maine. moosehead lake is nearby and has a lot of summer activitites. the lake is huge and gorgeous and within an easy days drive of boston. here's a link to a place you could do for under 2000/month: http://www.candershouse.com/cottage.htm
here's another link with multiple listings around rockwood which is a small town about 1/2 way up the lake. http://www.rockwoodonmoosehead.org/members.html
re: coastal maine. i can't say for sure but i'm afraid your $2000 would only get you a week or 2 on most of maine's coast in summer.
