Waterfront Restaurant in San Fran
We have one day in SF on Sunday, Oct 1. Would love to find a good seafood restaurant. Any opinions out there about the Waterfront Restaurant & Cafe? Also would appreciate any suggestions on how to best spend our time that afternoon and later evening. Thanks!

Let me first tell you that we have not eaten at this place, but everyone we spoke to before we went to SF said to go to Scoma's (they have a web site). We did check it out when there but with children it was a bit pricey. If my husband and I were ever to go to SF alone this would be the first restaurant on our list.

I work a half a block away from the Waterfront Restaurant. It is excellent. Prices are on the high side and it's located away from the touristy areas on the Embarcadero. You will enjoy great views of the Bay Bridge, Coit Tower, Transamerica pyramid and Pier 7. You could always ride one of the historic trolley's to/from the Waterfront to Fishermans Wharf for only a buck. Go to Citysearch.com to get more info on the restaurant.

We had a great lunch at the Waterfront a year ago--sat outside on the deck on a lovely day. Food was excellent, although as one other poster said, it was not cheap. I've heard both good and bad things about Scoma's but my general inclination is to avoid the restaurants at Fisherman's Wharf--the ones I've been in have been only so-so.
As for the rest of your time, I'd recommend walking around Chinatown and North Beach and making the trek up to Coit Tower if it's a nice day--the view from there is great. I also recommend Beach Blanket Babylon for that evening if you like goofy, cabaret-type theater.

Waterfront Restaurant is good. But the bottomline is that waterfront views and good food do not go together in SF. If there is a view like at Sinbads the food is usually pretty bad. There is great food all over the city so concentrate on what you want to eat not on what you will be looking at. Finally no one locally goes to Fisherman's Wharf to eat ever!
