Waterbar in San Francisco
Has anyone been to either the Epic Roasthouse or the Waterbar in San Francisco yet? If so, what did you think?
|
I've been to Waterbar. Nice decor, views were great, food was about a C+. There were four of us, and only 3 of us finished our main courses - and it was not because there was too much food. I like a lot of salt on things - but I could not eat the fries that came with my Fish & Chips because they were waaaay too salty. Other friends who dined there a few weeks earlier said the same thing - so it wasn't just a one-time thing. My Fish of Fish & Chips (one of their specialties) was OK - nothing special. Don't remember what appetizer I had. I would not go back or recommend it to a friend.
Had much better food at Quince & Spruce. Stu Dudley |
I've been to Epic Roasthouse. Very attractive space, gorgeous view, nicely spaced tables. My lunch was good but not memorable. I'd go back for a business lunch or dinner but there's lots of places I'd pick instead if food were the highest priority.

I thought the terrace bar at Waterbar looked really appealing for a sunny afternoon.

Stu...once again..yer killin' me.
I think we share the same memory bank when it comes to restaurants. ;) dm((L)), I've also had some friends eat there and they said if someone else wasn't buying or it wasn't on business they probably wouldn't go to Epic. Pricey??? |
I've only been for lunch andit was pricey but not as ridiculous as I expected - salad, grilled salmon and dessert for $32.50. I read some of the dinner menu prices, though, and they were a little more "stratospheric".

Would it be too cold and windy to sit outside at Waterbar in late July?
My wife and I wanted to have an early dinner before our concert at the Globe theater in Berkeley. |
I meant to say Greek theater.
|
Impossible to predict. Last Sat as we drove over the Golden Gate Bridge, it was 93 at 2pm. When we returned around the same time on Sunday, it was 54 - 40 degree swing in 1 day.
Normally it would be too cold, unless you're below a heater. Also, no matter what the weather, I think inside would be preferable anyway, IMO. Stu Dudley |
Do have any other suggestions Stu for a pre-concert meal?(no sushi)
We have eaten at Boulevard on many occasions and wanted to try something new thats close where were staying at the Mandarin. We're planning at taking the Bart to the concert which starts at 8pm. Would it make more sense to eat in Berkeley? |
|
As I recall, it's about a 30 to 40 min walk from the BART station to the Greek. Perhaps eat early at Tadich - which might be a faster meal than at Waterbar or Perbacco.
Not Familiar with restaurants in Berkeley. Stu Dudley |
I have friends who love the food and ambience at Waterbar, for what it's worth. They are not the foodies that the StuDudley's are - but they do eat everywhere in the city all the time.

Thank you Stu

Well, I think I'd like to try the Waterbar (outside) if there's ever another sunny weekend afternoon. :-( I'm so disappointed this 3 day weekend. I don't eat fries so maybe I won't have to worry about salt.
|
It is gloomy around here this weekend. What a weather change in a week! Like Stu says, it even changes dramatically overnight.
|
Gloomy doesn't even describe it where I am trippinkpj, my place has been so dark I have had to have a lamp on all day. When I went out I wore wool slacks and a wool sweater. Not our typical Memorial Day weekend is it?
|
That's for sure LoveItaly. And we have the smoke coming over the hills, from the Santa Cruz mountains fire. I put my turtlenecks away, then got them out again. I have an outdoor concert/ bbq to go to tomorrow.
|
Oh trippinkpj, of course you have the smoke in the air! A horrible and devasting fire. Heartbreaking. And so early in the season. The SF Chron had an article about the smoke and health issues. So be careful dear one.
