Water Slide used in "South Pacific" movie
 

I am trying to locate the area in Hawaii where you are able to slide down a cement tube-like-slide into a water pond. This slide was the one used in the movie South Pacific. Thanks for your help.

Own a copy of this movie but don't remember the slide. If you are refering to the Mitzi Gaynor, Rosano Brazzi, John Kerr, Ray Walston movie from about 1960, have read South Pacific was filmed in the garden island of Kauai that Bali Hi as well as the love sceens in the Thornbirds were filmed on the North Coast of Kauai. People <BR>gather there to fish and kids will dive off there also. I don't recall any <BR>water slide though. If you remember what <BR>scene or song, I'll take a look at my copy of South Pacific. I've been to Kauai many times. It's my families <BR>favorite place to get away from it all. <BR>While we were there last summer, Vice- <BR>President came for a visit. I'm told <BR>it's one of his favorite haunts also. <BR>There might be a scene filmed at the Wailua River where they slid down some <BR>rocks. I'm not sure. Thanks, Sandra. I thought it too was on the island of Kauai, but I think it is in the middle of the island, but don't know where. <BR>

Back in 1979 I visited Kaui and asked one of the tour guides where the waterslide was located. He told me to go to St. Slyvester's Cathlic Church in Kilauea Kaui. There is a trail behind the church that you can take down to the Kilauea Falls. Back then the cement slides were still there, but from the photos online I don't believe they are there. It was great fun! Quite a drop off the end of the slide into the pool below!

South Pacific was filmed on Kauai and one of the best beaches is Nurses Beach where she washed that man right out of her hair. Lumanhai beach....I don't remember a slide but will checkout the church next time we are there....

My whole family did the slide on Kauai in 1977. We were told it was actually used in Elvis' Blue Hawaii film. The waterfall slide was all natural before the Blue Hawaii film, but they added the cement to make it easier on the a** for filming....still you had to wear cut off jeans because the cement was pretty rough.

Never heard about it being used in South Pacific.

You did have to ask locals for directions and it was a short hike in. When we were there, there was a mix of local Hawaiian kids and a couple visitor like our family. We had fun talking to the kids and the waterfall was a BLAST! Yes, quite a drop into the natural pool below the falls. There was also a great "Tarzan" rope swing in a tree that you could also drop in from!

Years later I heard that local law enforcement had fenced and closed down the falls due to overuse and drug traffic problems.

I've never heard anything further about it.

Hey - some of us like old posts revisited. :) Remember hearing about the slide and that it was shut down. Lotsa good stuff to recall from both movies - South Pacific and Blue Hawaii, which was made way back when the Coco Palms still had the great torchlighting ceremony at night - for free!!!!!!! :)

We enjoyed watching it in '77 with cocktails and pupus.
