Watching the next debate in NYC - friendly bar
I am going to be in NYC for the next debate and want to watch the debate in a friendly place - IE a bar that goes more blue than red. I will be staying in Soho so Soho, Tribeca, West Village would be great.
I figure there must be local hangouts for those voting Democrat? Local to me there are a few bars which host debate-watching and which the local Dems use as a hangout for parties such as on Super Tuesday... and I have to believe NYC would have the same. Perhaps the local chapters of the get out the vote effort for Hillary? Thank you. |
NYC is probably the bluest place in the country - with the possible exception of SF. (The last election my Dem congressman got more than 90% of the votes, followed by Right to Life and Socialist Worker, then Conservative).
And since Trump is a native New Yorkers have been watching his shennanigans, and known he was a lying cheating jerk, for many years. I think it might be very hard to find a place with anyone supporting him. |
Thanks nytraveler. I know how blue NY is, but I was wondering if there are any actual hangouts for the Dems. I'll poke around when I get there, maybe the concierge will have some suggestions. I don't keno of bars will automatically be televising it or not. I just know I don't want to sit in the hotel watching it.
Thanks again. |

LOL, I can think a several bars where there will be VERY VERY few Trump supporters in NYC if you don't mind nobody trying to hit on you.

Or this: http://tinyurl.com/gouwvmx Or this: http://tinyurl.com/gp85gps I don't know if all the places that offered the first debate will offer the second and third, but Sunday isn't the busiest bar night, so perhaps they will. Most of these are not football bars. |
doug, that is PERFECT. Thank you. I knew there would be something special going on surrounding these debates and it is a matter of finding them.
Comedy would be fantastic. I will poke around the links you left. |
Hi everyone
Reporting back. V Bar in West Village was perfect. It's a small friendly bar and everyone was raptly watching the debate, fairly quiet except when WHOA or laugh-worthy things were said. I knew I was going to Toloache for dinner at their bar, and, a comedy club around the corner for an 1115 show, so I called the bar next to the comedy club to see if they were showing the debate. Yes, they said. However, I also chatted with a guy next to me at the bar at Toloache and he said he was going to V Bar. The bar (Fat Black Pussy Cat) next to the comedy club was WAY too loud when I walked in, and the TV was tuned to something else, and even though the sound was on it was clear I wouldn't catch it all... so I still had ten minutes and sought out V Bar. Perfect. So now you know! And if you are reading this you have a few places to check out next time you are in West Village. I have to say if I ever lived in NYC I think West Village would be high on the list of places I would want to live. Thank you for the tips! |
