Watching Mt. St. Helens
Just joined all my neighbors for the latest Mt. St. Helens show! From our house/street we can see the mountain and the plume of ash with the sunset and it is actually a very interesting/pretty sight. Anyone else watching it?

I've had the volcano cam on my favorites for a while now-since the initial plumes were spotted! It was down all day yesterday, though. Sis lives in Battle Ground, so she keeps me posted (I'm in NJ) I can imagine my friends rolling their eyes when I admit it, but I find Mt St Helens history pretty interesting. I've visited the observatory twice. If my transfer to WA would get it's rear in gear, I could see it first hand, too!

The news said they were hoping to open the Johnston Ridge Observatory by May for the 25th anniversary, but doubt that will happen now. It really is a fascinating mountain to visit.

Yeah we were there Sunday (not J. Ridge of course) and all we got was a wimpy puff or two. Phooey.

Pretty amazing site. I was lucky to get pictures of the eruption - I happened to be up at Pittock Mansion taking photos of other things, so I had my camera and tripod and just had to point it at Saint Helens.
You can see my pictures at http://www.PortlandBridges.com . One of my photos even made the front page of the Oregonian: http://www.oregonlive.com/oregonian/...dnesday-A1.pdf Andrew |
Wow, you could not have asked to be in a better spot with your camera! I saw the newspaper photo this morning, nice pic.
|
I hope it's just a show, and nobody gets hurt!
|
I'm watching it on the volcano cam - looks like its getting more active again
|
incredible pictures- how far away were you when you shot them?
|
I was probably 60-80 miles away, in Portland, about a mile from downtown up in the west hills (Pittock Mansion).

Great photo, Andrew!
My husband flew from Seattle today on the 6 AM flight to DC and the pilot gave them a good view of Mt. St. Helens, out the window. It was clearly visible but wasn't doing a thing. Whah! |
