Washington to Asheville
 

Hello, next year we want to make a trip to the USA (from Holland) and we have already a lot of information but we can not find enough what their is to see between whashington - roanoke - Asheville.We are with 4 adults and driving with a car. Thanks.

Well there is a lot to see between Washington and Asheville, you might write back with your interests and how much time you have. Between D.C. and Roanoke is Charlottsville, VA, the home of the University of Virginia and Monticello (T. Jefferson's home). The Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkways run all they way basically from D.C. to Asheville. This is a mountain road that runs along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains and has great views. You wouldn't want to drive the whole way on this of course, but you might want to go partway on it.

This could be a long trip - do you know how long you'll be in America?

Also, what kind of activities do you like? Outdoors? City life? Historical attractions?

I'm from Asheville, so I'll start in North Carolina. The Biltmore House is the main attaction but so are the mountains with the Great Smokey Mountains being within an hour of Asheville. One of my favorites is the Pisgah National Forest and the waterfalls near Brevard, NC.

Heading north is the Blue Ridge Parkway and Mountain Mitchell (the highest mountain in eastern America).

Ask lots of questions because the people who monitor these forums are very helpful.

Earlier this year we drove from Ashville to Washington. We drove up a good part of the Blue Ridge Pkwy (you don't wan't to do too much of this), stopped at Monticello (Charlottsville, Jefferson's home), and Appomattox. I can recommend these. ((*))
