Washington State Ferries
I am spending some time in Washington State in late September and while I am there I wish to set foot on the San Juan Islands (maybe a day) and go to Victoria (another day). Is there a way I can do both of those via ferry without having to return to the coast of Wash State after each leg? Can I go to San Juan Islands, spend some time there and then take another ferry to Victoria/Sidney, stay overnite there (or vice versa) returning to the coast for the second nite. I do not have to take a ferry out of Seattle as a part of my tour will take me upland as far as Vancouver. I have checked the Washington State Ferry site and cannot seem to zero in on the exact information I need. Help, please.

Hi, Polly,
If I understand your question, you want to know if you can ride the ferry first to the San Juans, and then Victoria, without having to return to the home port between the legs. The answer is yes. One of the Washington State ferry routes originating in Anacortes goes first to the San Juans, then on to Sidney BC (for Victoria). Then the ferry repeats the route back. So you can ride on any sailing from Anacortes to, say, Friday Harbor on San Juan Island, get off and spend some time there, then catch this "international" ferry on the way to Sidney when it stops at Friday Harbor. When you're done in Victoria, go back to Sidney, and ride back either to the San Juans or all the way to Anacortes.
I think there's only one international sailing daily in each direction, while there are several other sailings serving just the San Juans from Anacortes. The other boats turn around at Friday Harbor and head back.
Hope this is what you wanted to know.

Polly, there are all kinds of options regarding the ferries. You can take one from Anacortes, visit the San Juan Islands, and then take the ferry from San Juan Island to Sidney and visit Victoria. You can also take the ferry from Sidney to Tawwassen (Vancouver). Last summer we did the following loop:
Mukilteo-> Whidbey Island -> Keystone->
Port Townsend -> Port Angeles-> Victoria-> Sidney -> San Juan Islands ->
Anacortes. It was great!!

We did a similar trip a few years ago and it is one of my most favorite ever. Such beautiful islands!!!!
I can't remember exactly, but we left Seattle early in the morning to catch the ferry in Anacortes. The ferry stopped at several islands before we arrived at Orcas Island - Wonderful - We stayed at Rosarios. Rosarios has a wonderful history and is a beautiful bed and breakfast. You can find out all about it on its web page.
The next day we took a ferry to Victoria and spent the day. I don't recall it being difficult at all to get to Victoria. I remember that the ferry schedule listed several times that day that we could pick up a ferry at Orcas that was on the way to Victoria.
Later, that afternoon we took a ferry, back to Port Angeles and from there we drove Port Townsend for dinner and Port Ludlow for the Night. We easily caught our early morning flight out of Seattle the next morning. This was a terrific two night circle excursion out of Seattle.
Have fun!
