Washington Square Park

I read in some posts from earlier (April/May) that Wash. Sq. Park was closed for construction. Is this still the case? We will be in NYC next week and I really want to get a pix. of myself by the arch--anyone a fan of Mo Willem's Knufflebunny?? I'm assuming that's the arch in the 2nd book. (I work at a preschool and his books are favorites!)

You can get near the arch, but there are fences all over the place--might not be very picturesque.

Phase 1 is due to be completed in Spring 2009. The arch itself was restored a few years ago but the area of the park behind it has pretty much been bulldozed.

Katie thanks for the picture. I am disappointed, but I'm glad I knew about the construction ahead of time.

I passed by the other day and the eastern part of the park was open and filled with people.

Agreed--there is definitely some stuff going on---like the spontaneous shows, etc. The dog park is also open if that's your thing. My family always wants to stop by if they're in the area when they visit. The dogs are so cute; and watching you get a sense of the social aspect of having a dog in the city.
