What are the best months to visit Washington DC for pleasant weather and lower crowds?

I would say September & October. The days are still warm, but hot as hot & humid as in the Summer, and crowds are down since kids are back in school.

I would agree with smetz. Maybe prefer September to October, but both have generally pleasant weather and DC is not overly crowded with tourists.

September and October are beautiful. But so is May! And early June.
