Washington DC w/ 15 & 11 Yr Old Girls
Hi Everybody,
Any recommendations for interesting, out-of-the-ordinary things to do in DC?
We'll have 3-4 days, & our girls like to do fun, interesting things. While they like hands-on museums, they aren't big museum people.
On a previous week-end trip, they "did" the Capital, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, etc.
So, we're looking for something a bit different than the standard tourist fare, but still something that would be great to do in DC.
THANKS for any help you can give me!

They are the perfect age for the relatively new International Spy Museum in D.C. Also, the United Stated Holocaust Memorial Museum is fantastic and so important. Both of these are much more interactive than simply walking through. Have a good time in D.C.!

Thanks for your ideas. The Spy Museum does sound great, & the Holocaust Museum is probably important to do. Both would be interesting.
A few other questions:
Is Georgetown overly crowded on the week-ends?
Would Alexandria be interesting/fun for teens?
What are the pros/cons of staying in Arlington/Rosslyn vs. in the city proper.
If in the city proper, would you all recommend DuPont Circle or the Mall area or another area?
Is it much less expensive to stay in Arlington?
Is Chinatown interesting? What about Eastern Market?
Is the Library of Congress interesting?
THANKS!

I would recommend two things that we did with our kids at that age. Ford's Theater and across the street, the house where Lincoln died. These are close to the Hard Rock Cafe which is usually good bait for kids that age. Our children also liked Mt. Vernon.
