Washington DC transportation options

Hello,

I will be flying into Dulles arriving on a Sunday morning.

Can you tell me the best way for two of us, with suitcases to get to the city. I need to get to Union Station and my nephew needs to take a Bus to get to NYC.

Could you also tell me which are some competitively buses from DC to NYC and where do they depart from.

Lastly, can I store suitcases at Union Station for a few hours?

Thanks
RJ

Union Station does have a checkroom, near Gate A, BUT you might need to have an Amtrak ticket to use it.

There's no "best" way to get ito hte city -- you can take a cab (handy but priey), shuttle, or the public express bus ($2.50).

The cheapest bus from DC to NYC would be the Chinatown bus.

The bus station and Amtrak stations are actually right next to each other.

Greyhound and Peter Pan do express buses to NYC almost hourly. Don't bother with Chinatown, since they are cheaper but also much more inconvenient on both ends.

The haul from Dulles is going to be your biggest problem. As others have said, if you can get to Metro you can take the subway into the city. There are shuttles from Dulles to one of the Falls Church metros.

For $3, you can get the 5A express bus from Dulles to the L'Enfant Plaza Metro stop, which is 2 stops from Chinatown. Go to www.wmata.com for schedules; it runs about once an hour.

Unfortunately, getting from L'Enfant to Union Station requires two changes -- if you're both going there, and toting luggage, you should probably just grab a taxi.

I believe that Dulles is one of the airports that Greyhound makes stops at, continuing on to the terminal adjacent to Union Station. Check www.greyhound.com
