Washington DC Restaurants
Any recent experiences with Cashion's Eat Place? I was looking for a restaurant with good food and that takes reservations - can be casual - not too far from the Omni Shoreham.
Thanks for any suggestions. |
Cashion's is good. U can easily walk there from the Omni. If u dont mind walking about a mile or taking the metro one stop North to Cleveland Park, there are 2 good restaurants there -- Dino's a good Italian neighborhood place that offers great specials. http://www.dino-dc.com/
Palena which has both an upscale part and a cafe that has very reasonably priced meals. The cafe does not take reservations. http://www.palenarestaurant.com/ |
The original owner of Cashion's sold it a couple of years ago. The original owner was a woman from Mississippi. The new owner is Greek. Although the Post's critic says the quality of Cashion's is still very good, some of the cuisine has changed to reflect the strengths of the new owner.

While I think Ann Cashion is a great chef, I actually prefer the new owner's menu and food to her's.

Had dinner there this summer. Great food. Weak service, not sure if it was the server or the kitchen. Not inexpensive. I'd go back.
|
Dino looks good. I really like chefs who support local farmers. How difficult is it to park on the street? Remember I'm from NY and used to it.
|
Dino's has a fabulous Italian wine list and the owner has many good stories about the his trips to Italy to buy wine. I would describe it as a down to earth place that is all about the food and wine. Very seasonal. They have a good email newsletter to let you know what is cooking. Parking can be a challenge but we've done it whenever we need to.

That's what I wanted to hear, blueswimmer. We'll find a spot!
I like Dean's language on his website. |
Just like NYC, u have to hunt for spaces, but u'll find one eventually. There is a paid lot across the street u could park in. If you're coming from the Shoreham, it's an easy 5 minute metro ride and is 2 minutes walk from the stop in Cleveland Park.
PS - Cashions & Palena's also support local farmers. |
yt - good to know. We leave in the am - I'll report back on Tuesday.
|
It might be a bit of a hike and would probably require reservations, but Komi's in Dupont Circle is well regarded. The Post's dining critic, Tom Sietsema, raves about the place. The President and First Lady ate there last spring.
|
Don't understand all the fuss/buzz on Komi's. Outstanding service, but none of the 4 of us eating that nite were overly impressed with the food...very good, but not outstanding and very expensive.
|
Whoa, did you see Dino's dessert menu?! Guess I'm obligated to show that to my wife!
http://www.dino-dc.com/dessert_menu/index.html Thanks for the recommendation. I'm starting a list of restaurants we might want to visit during our Christmas week trip, and Dino's has been added. |
