Washington DC/Old Alexandria special dinner recommendation

My husband, teenage son and myself are visiting Washington DC for the first time this April.

We will be celebrating our 24th Wedding Anniversary while we are there.

I am looking for recommendations for a special dinner for our Anniversary.

Casual attire is preferred, definitely no sport coats and ties.

We love appetizers and dessert with the meal. As far as budget - no more than $150.00 without alcholol.

We love all types of food, although Sushi is probably out. Crab Cakes and Oysters, Prime Rib/Steaks are our favorite.

We're staying in Old Alexandria and will be using the Metro for transportation.

Thanks.

The Old Ebbitt Grill would fit the bill. It is near the White House and is popular with locals and visitors. While it is a nice/fancy looking restaurant there is no dress code so 'dressy casual' would be fine. The food is excellent and the surroundings are a piece of DC history.

In Old Town, favourites are O'Connell's (www.danieloconnells.com) and Union Street Public House (www.unionstreetpublichouse.com). Upstairs is nicest for dinner at Union Street. Also, the Chart House (www.chart-house.com) is right on the water in Old Town so the views at night are pretty.

Congratulations!

Jackson 20 in the Hotel Monaco in Old Town is an excellent restaurant too! More upscale than O'Connell's and Union Street too.

Thank you all for the replies. I've looked up all the links and I think we now have several places we'll try.

Besides the anniversary dinner and the ones listed above, any comments on Pizza Paradiso and Ben's Chili Bowl? Is Ben's near anything else I might visit on first trip to DC?

U Street is the area where Ben's Chili Bowl. Most people wouldn't be there on a first trip. There are shops, etc. in the area.
