Washington DC Kid Hotel
 

Looking for a family/kid friendly hotel in DC with a mini or junior suite. We are 2 families planning a trip down there for April school vacation. We both have 2 kids each and they are the same age. The kids are brother/sister and at the age they are too old to share a bed any longer. Roll away is an option as well as girls together/boys together but...the kids prefer to be with their own family for bed time. We are thinking a room with 2 beds and a sleep sofa would fit all our needs as well as providing some extra space in the room.

We would also like to be as close as possible to a Metro station.

We are pricing flights from BOS to DCA instead of driving but they are $250+ at the moment. Would it be worth it to fly into BWI and take a taxi/transfer to hotel? Or hold out a bit for a price drop into DCA?

Any help is most appreciated.

Sale prices won't kick in til Jan or Feb for April. With tons of people going to Fla for April vacation, many of those flights connect in DC so the good deals are few and far between.

Embassy Suites is often mentioned as the place for families to stay in DC.

The trip from BWI int DC isn't bad -- you pick up a shuttle right outside the terminal, which costs $3 per person and goes to the Metro's Greenbelt station. AirTran frequently runs specials that are $39 per leg; with taxes, the round trip is $95; prices for April are currently $54. Wiht that savings, you could take taxis and still come out ahead!

As tracy mentioned, Embassu Suites is a good bet for the multiple beds you need. The one in Crystal City is a hike from the Metro, but the one in Chevy Chase is literally atop the Friendship Heights Metro, and the ES in Alexandria is across the street from the Metro.

All the ES offer 2-room suites with 2 beds and sofabed, very basic kitchen appliances (microwave and small fridge), 2 TVs and those famous breakfast buffets.

Try the Residence Inn. I'm not sure exactly where they're located, but they would be a great choice hotel-wise. They have l and 2 bedroom suites (the one bedroom usually come with a sofa sleeper in the livingroom), and they come with a wonderful complimentary breakfast in the morning.
Rooms usually have refrigerator, microwave, and stove. I have yet to stay in one that wasn't nice.

We stayed at the Doubletree Suites on New Hampshire last June and it was perfect for our family of four. It had a living room with sleeper sofa, separate bedroom with two queen beds, and full kitchen. Only a block and a half from the Foggy Bottom metro. We ate all breakfasts and several suppers in the room. I would definitely stay there again.

Also, our family of five stayed at the Radisson Barcelo in Dupont Circle in August. It is only a couple of short blocks to the metro. Our room had two queen beds and a nice big chair that opened into a "chair bed" the size of a single bed. The rooms were rather large and we were very comfortable with our arrangements there. For the savings on room price (usually around $99) you would have a nice room with $$ to spend elsewhere! Have a fun trip!

We stayed at the Embassy Suites and it was great, cocktail hour and wonderful b'fasts, but I do think a walk to the Metro.......we just took a taxi back and forth so we didn't waste the time.....the other suggestions sound great also.

Here's another vote for the Chevy Chase Embassy Suites. Nice area. Very easy access to Metro.

for travel, remember Southwest air to BWI from Providence and Manchester. Also new Flyi air to Dulles.
April spring break is peak season - plan ahead and do not plan on last minute deals. With 4 kids, try to find place with some breakfast included (it adds up!) and/or an indoor pool for fun. Troll the websites. I second the "suite" idea since kids think sofa beds are fun...

Try Loews L'Enfant Plaza--the hotel sits right atop a metro station, and the route to the station leads through a mini-mall with a number of inexpensive restaurants and cafés. Another advantage is that the hotel is very near the mall and all the Smithsonian museums, the National Gallery, and the Holocaust Museum.
