Washington DC Hotels??
Hello,
Has anyone ever stayed at the Best Western New Hampshire Suites in Washington DC? How about the Carlyle Suites? At the Best Western, are the rooms that have a kitchenette worth the extra money? I will be traveling with two teenagers. Also, are the neighborhoods safe, are there good restaurants around, and how long does it take to walk to the nearest metro?
Any replies would be GREATLY appreciated!
THANKS!!

I am not familiar with the hotels themselves, having never stayed in them. However, I can tell you that the areas in which they are located are perfectly fine to stay in; they're safe. If I had to choose between the two, I would stay at the Carlyle Suites. It is located right in Dupont Circle which is a great area for shops and restaurant. The hotel is about 2 blocks, if that, from the metro. Located in Dupont is a fabulous museum, the Phillips Collection. If you have extra time, you should definitely visit. The Best Western is located a little further downtown. The area is more of a business district and doesn't have the character that Dupont Circle does. This hotel is also about 2 blocks from the metro.

We always stay at the Best Western New Hampshire Suites when we are in DC. I think all the rooms have a small kitchenette, so I'm not sure what you're referring to in terms of extra money. Breakfast is included, and it's a pretty good one. Bagels, pastry, cereal, fruit, coffee, milk, and juice. The hotel is only a couple of blocks from Dupont Circle, where there are lots of restaurants and shops. There are metro stops at Dupont Circle and Foggy Bottom, both just a couple of blocks away. We like to walk, and we usually walk to the mall. It takes about a half hour. The staff at the hotel is very helpful, and the rooms are quite nice. Not fancy, but comfortable. If you make your reservations through 1-800-VISITDC, you will save money on the hotel. We usually pay about $80 per night by going through them, it's more if you call the hotel directly. We go to DC at least once a year and wouldn't stay any place else. I think it has to be the best deal in the city. Let me know if I can answer any other questions.
