My sister-in-law stayed at the Harrington a few years ago. It's not in a great neighborhood and a hotel that caters to college- and highschool students. There was a discussion of, at least, the Harrington, a while back, which you should find by doing a search.

Hi Pauline:<BR>I have to disagree about the Harrington not being in a good area. I was there last weekend, and the Harrington is about a block away from Ford's theater and one Block from the Metro Center train stop. It is not a residential area by any means. The Harrington Hotel look like a two star hotel in any city. Not fancy at all. But for the record we had a late lunch Christmas Eve in the restaurant downstairs called Harry's. We had a great lunch and the waiter was terrific. We stopped there because it was the only place open in the area (open until 2AM every night. 1AM for food) We really lucked out! Good luck in your search and have a great time in DC!

Pauline: Allow me to HELP you - 'cause if you're considering the Harrington, you need some HELP. The Harrington is a five-star, not two-star ... dump! If someone claims to have stayed there, there's only one sure-fire test of their credibility ... demand to see some roach bites! Pauline, Pauline, Pauline ... if you're going to access this site for advice, at least listen to it ... the Harrington has been trashed countless times ... and yet, they still ask about it. It's true, I promised to change my tune in 2002 and stop bashing Gatlinburg ... at least there you may score a bear burger. But not the Harrington ... no redeeming features, sorry, just a DUMP. Any other place, you get a DC welcome wagon basket, but we had to draw the line someplace ... the Harrington took the prize, hands down. Ciao

The Harrington is a vile pit of a hotel and that is being gentle (and yes, I know people that have stayed there). Trust me, there are many other options in the city that you do not have to even consider it.

I stayed at the Harrington with my cheap grad school advisor one time. We arrived in town on a July afternoon and it was about 100 degrees out and the Harrington doesn't have a/c. The fans in our room didn't work and even after they fixed them it was almost unbearably hot. This was several years ago, but from the other's comments I get the immpression it hasn't improved.
