washington DC hotel help

I first want to say how much I enjoy the posts in the Fodors talk section, used info last month when my husband and I went to Vegas, Great tips, ahhh but then I knew whiich casino I wanted to stay out. So at last my question, just started doing research on hotels in the DC area, trying to get familiar with the different sections. So I need suggestion on hotels for 2 adults, something moderate and up ( not to crazy) that would be close to the sites and make our vacation smooth sailing, time wise to visit DC, Oct. thanks in advance, and I am sure I will be back for more

Marriott downtown , there are 2 , courtyard and metro. If walking to museums are what you need stay as close to them as you can. But you can find less expensive hotels in dupont circle and outlying areas and just take the subway ( it is really easy- for real). Im not sure if october is high season or low but check orbitz.com, expedia.com, hotel.com, the prices change all the time so keep looking. The two i stated are close ( walking distance to museums ) and price from $100-200 a night depending on season. But really subway is very nice and fast and easy , like anything you do it takes a couple of trips and a few questions from attendents to ge tthe hang of it. nick

We just got back from DC, and stayed at the Doubletree at 810 New Hampshire Avenue, right near George Washington Univ. and the Foggy Bottom metro stop. Very nice hotel, clean and in a very nice location. Being a block or so from the metro will give you access to just about everything in Washington. We paid $144/night over a weekend, which included a full room service breakfast for 4.

Dupont Circle is great area and only minutes to dowtown by metro. Stayed at Summerfield Suites (Wyndham hotel), 1 BR suite under $100.00, free breakfast every day, outdoor pool (which you won't care about in October). Had a a nice stay-I'd go back.

Try either the Marriott Wardman Park or the Omni, up Connecticut Ave. The metro stop is right there, just a nice subway ride downtown. Subways in DC are nice, but they stop around midnight. Also, these two hotels are across from some nice restaurants and nearby Adams Morgan for funkier selections. The Marriott - try the Wardman Tower at that hotel - nice, just recently renovated. Both hotels - pretty locations, by the park, nice pools, all the fixin's. Both hotels can be had for 100 bucks on the net if you time it right.
