Washington DC Bed & Breakfast
 

Visiting Washington DC in August to deliver friend's daughter to school there. Any suggestions for a bed & breakfast, reasonable cost, near main attractions in DC? (Going to be hot...I know!)

I don't think it is a bed and breakfast kind of place. I will tell you I just booked an internet fare of $59 a night (1king) at the Sheraton Four Points. If you are a starwood member you will get breaks on all of there hotels.<BR><BR>go to hotels.com. There are some areas in VA that are a subway ride away if cost is a concern. I should think you can get deals in major hotels still in August perhaps not $59 but $99 or $89<BR><BR>I have also stayed at the capital hilton which is two blocks from the white house ok and pretty central although I find that I like to be near a metro (Capital Hilton is two blocks). Garden Inn Hilton is across the street from a metro. Happy Hunting

The principal Washington attractions are in the business/government district, so you should look for BBs convenient to Metro. I know there are some very nice restored old homes in use as B&Bs now, especially in Capitol Hill and Dupont Circle areas. Kalorama Guest House, in the Adams Morgan area, is quite popular.

My brother used to live in DC and we enjoyed visiting and staying at the Kalorama Guest House, if that is the one in Adams Morgan. It was quite a while ago. Mostly hotels in D.C. Are you delivering daughter to Georgetown? If so, Make immediate reservations at the Key Bridge Marriott and forget the B&B. It's a quick drive over Key Bridge and you can see the school from the hotel. You can actually walk it, but I'm sure you'll have all the normal college kids stuff with you. And, yes, it's going to be hot and very, very humid! It's the humidity that gets to you in DC in August. Marriott has a nice indoor/outdoor pool for cooling off. Closest Metro stop to Marriott is Rosslyn on the Virginia side of the river, not a far walk from the hotel. No Metro in Georgetown.

We like the Dupont at the Circle (www.dupontatthecircle.com), which really is just steps away from the Dupont Circle Metro station and lots of restaurants, cafes and shops. It's a nice, small B&B, though not cheap.

Thanks for suggestions. I'll print them out. Actually, to be more accurate, her daughter is starting graduate school at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore but we want to spend a couple days in DC as well. Many thanks for any suggestions.

You might try the Morrison-Clark Inn, on Massachusetts Ave and 11th St, NW. It's a lovely old house (2 houses actually, I think) with a very good restaurant. I've never seen the rooms, but I know people who have stayed there and really liked it.

Im taking my two sons on graduation trip to DC next year where would be the most central place to stay at a b&b that is close to transportation we do not want to drive in DC. Needs to be reasonably priced.<BR>

Stephanie, no B&B or inn thinks their price is "unreasonable." What is "reasonable" to you?
