How to find out hotels around 22 Rhode Island Ave. NW..
adult grand children staying with friend at this address..I'd like to be on my own but "near" or at least access on Metro.to area.. AAA no help. called "tourists Bureau" was helpful ..but need more detail.. They said Union station areas & Red line metro .Now how do I find hotels to check out? PS When I asked my kids to question owner of condo where they are staying." O.K. we will let you know ".."we have lots of time" You know how that goes... I want get MY reservations settled... HELP |
I only have first-hand info with the Marriott Marquis. It's about a mile from the address you mentioned. Just looking at the maps, I didn't see a really convenient metro stop.
Will the adult grand children have a car? Looks like about $12 cab ride from hotel to address. Anyone have better info for traveler24? |
I'm sure they'll kick this over to the USA forum but until then, did you do a google search using the "nearby" option?
It produces this result: And the Courtyard by Marriott is right next to a Metro stop on that result. Edit: You have to click" View Larger Map" to see the results WITH the hotels noted. |
Unfortunately, the condo is not near a metro stop - you'd have to research bus service, or be willing to walk about 15 minutes from the metro (green and yellow lines, or red line depending on which stop) to the condo. I'd probably pick a hotel on a metro line and plan to walk or bus from the Rhode Island Avenue/Brentwood metro stop.
The red line goes to, among other neighborhoods, Woodley Park, DuPont Circle, Metro Center, Federal Triangle and Gallery Place, all of which have hotels nearby. The green and yellow lines go to, among other neighborhoods, Convention Center, Gallery Place and L'Enfant Plaza, again, all of which have hotels nearby. |
The likely reason AAA et al couldn't help much is that the friend's address is in the middle of a very old residential neighborhood of 19th and early 20th C row houses. No hotels in the immediate vicinity.
Based on the address on RI Ave, NW you are equidistant-ish between Noma-Gallaudet Metro and Shaw Metro stations. Shaw is on the green line, somewhat less convenient than the red line, and I don't really know of any hotels there. There may be some. There are two hotels very close to the Noma-Gallaudet Metro station on the red line, a Marriott Courtyard and a Hilton Garden Inn. If your goal is to be close to your grandkids, I'd stay there and Uber back and forth. It's about a 20 minute walk. Noma-Gallaudet is one stop past Union Station but farther away from your family. There are hotels there but they tend to cater more to business clientele. Sometimes that means good weekend deals but the area around Union Sta is just not very interesting (IMO). |
I'll bet the area as described above has some Airbnb accommodations. If you put in dates for your proposed stay you can use the map to zoom in & narrow down results. Though the map isn't specific you can get a good idea of location, good enough to get within walking distance I should think if you zoom in as far as the map will let you.

If your ONLY goal while in DC is to be near your family, you've already been given some options. If you would also like some options for exploring a bit of DC, there are a LOT of hotels along the metro lines that are closest to that address. And if this latter scenario applies, then you might look in particular at Penn Quarter (in / around the Gallery Place metro stop) or Dupont Circle or perhaps Woodley Park, depending on your budget and what you want to do while in the city.
Good luck! |
