We are going to Washington DC as part of our honeymoon and staying for four days, I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good place to stay? To give you an idea of what we like, when we go to New York we always stay in Times Square as we love being next to the hustle and bustle and having restaurants, shops to wonder around and things to do right on our doorstep. Your suggestions would be appreciated, thanks

What month? July and August are very hot.
Contact your Congress person if you want to get a tour of the Capitol or the office buildings.
Pick a hotel near a Metro station.
I like arriving in DC on the Metro or on Amtrak. It beats driving into the city and having big parking fees.

Nothing in DC compares to Times Square, but I think Penn Quarter or Dupont Circle would fit your desire to have shops, restaurants, and bustle right outside your door. Have fun, and yes, be prepared for major heat and humidity in the summer!

two edgy choices. well the tabard isn't that edgy, but it's very nice. aaronshipman looks nice too; we've looked at it but haven't stayed there. you might want to check other bnb choices too. or not, if you don't like bnb's.

I think Dupont Circle would work for your desires, also. I think the Four Seasons is maybe a good hotel for a honeymoon, but it is just a bit off the track to the side of Georgetown. Now Georgetown would fit your needs, but that hotel is just not smack in the middle of it, but it might work, who knows. Some boutique hotel (maybe a Kimpton) might be good. Look at the Monaco (Penn Qtr) or Madera (Dupont Circle).

No equivalent to Times Square. Dupone Circle is a central location and has a number of restaurants and cafes right nearby. Georgetown is another area that is lively but not as easy for getting around the city.

If you want hustle and bustle (and coincidentally to be very near a lot of the sites you'll want to see), stay in Penn Qtr. loads of good restaurants and good hotels.

Congratulations on your wedding! I'm a big fan of DC and have been several times and agree with others there is nothing "like" Times Square. I think you were just mentioning it to let folks know you like staying "in the thick of things", just like I do :) I think Dupont Circle is the best place to stay in DC because of all the shops and restaurants around. All the monuments, memorials and museums are of course down near the "mall" and there are places to stay but at night, not much to do. Though if you get the chance, definitely see the monuments at night - they are just glorious (and I think better than the day time).

Penn Quarter is just as close to the mall as Dupont Circle and very lively at night. There's a Monaco (Kimpton hotel) in Penn Quarter along with some of the city's best retaurants (I also like to stay in Dupont Circle, but if you're looking to be in the "thick of things", Penn Qtr is "it" at the moment).

If you like the Kimpton Hotels, check Groupon. I have seen may deals for them in the past few months.
