Hi me and my husband planning a trip in may for a week. We are looking for a reasonable hotel in georgetown or foggy town. I also would like to know of any good restaurants or activities to do. Thank Rose

You need to get a guidebook and look at what to do to narrow it down to your interests. I am sure you already know many things of interest in DC so there is no point in repeating them

Georgetown does not have a Metrorail station, so it's not the most convenient place to stay.

What are your exact dates and nightly budget? Reasonable means nothing.

"Foggy Bottom," not "foggy town", Rose! Is there a reason why you want to stay in those two areas specifically? Can you say roughly what you'd like to pay per night--"reasonable" means different things to different people. Lastly, there is a LOT to do in DC--can you give us some idea of what your interests are, what you don't like to do, what you really want to see? Same goes for restaurants, give us some clues, please! And search this board for threads other people have started about DC.

What type of food would you like and as the above poster mentioned Georgetown while it's really nice, doesn't have a metro station so getting around isn't the easiest, but it can be done. One of my favorite restaurants is located in Georgetown, Filomena, if you want excellent Italian food, that is the spot, order the manicotti, and an order of aranchini to start.

Two recommendations for Foggy Bottom hotels, which are quite reasonable if you can get sale and/or weekend rates:

Foggy Bottom is not the first neighborhood a lot of vistors think of, but it's actually not a bad choice for tourists either, depending on what you want to do. Both of the hotels I mention are close to the Foggy Bottom metro (orange and blue line access), and within walking distance of the Kennedy Center and Lincoln Memorial. On Washington Circle, close to the metro stop, you can also catch a Circulator Bus that will take you downtown or into Georgetown (which is also walkable). The area is not overflowing with nightlife, but due to increased residential development, has a few decent restaurants and cafes. Both of the hotels mentioned above, in fact, have excellent well-known restaurants (Dish and Circle Bistro, respectively). In Georgetown, depending on your taste, walk down to to the K street waterfront to try Bangkok Joe's or (for okay food but spectacular view) Sequoia. Cafe LaRuche is a small casual French bistro that I like; Mie n 'Yu is more exotic and upscale (though not fancy).

We stayed at the One Washington Circle hotel mentioned by MoonGirl. It was reasonable by most any standard. We rarely dined within less than a 5 minute walk from the hotel, but there was plenty within 10 minutes and anything you want within a 10 minute metro ride.

If looking for something reasonable, you might consider Alexandria, Virginia as an option. Town has several charms of its own, plus it is very easy to get into Central Washington via the Metro station.

In terms of what to do, you need to plan ahead for several attractions like the Capitol Building, the Mint, and especially the White House. I'd contact your Congressman's office for assistance. I wouldn't hold out hope that you can get a White House ticket at this late date (even for May) but it never hurts to ask.

Foggy Bottom may not be the best choice for these travelers because Metro is doing massive structural work there (new escalators, stairs, canopy) and closes the station on some weekends. I'm not sure how long the work will take, but several more months seems possible, so probably another location would provide easier access to Metro.
Pentagon City and Crystal City in Virginia have Metro stations and are very close to downtown DC.
