Washington D.C. tours in October
 

I will be visiting Washington D.C. later this month and would like to know if I should make reservations ahead of time for any tours; i.e., the moonlight tour of the monuments.

Also, does anyone have any experience with renting electric scooters, as I would like to for my dad who has limited mobility.

Also, any suggestions for any tours/restaurants recommended would be greatly appreciated.

Have not rented a scooter in DC - but hav inseveralother cities. The concierge at your hotel should have info as to who can rent scooters. If not, just do a search on google for surgical supply houses in DC.

But I always start with the hotel - they know which suppliers are reliable for delivering/picking up from the hotel - and you'll probably want to co-ord delivery with the concierge anyway.

We will be in D.C. for a weekend in the middle of October. I'm purchasing my "Monuments by Moonlight" ((s)) tour tickets online to receive the discount ($27 instead of $30). However, I'm not going to make the reservations until we get to D.C. (or atleast closer to the trip) so I can pick which of the two nights has the better weather. <):)

Regardng restaurant recs: what neighborhood will you be staying in? do you have a restaurant budget (US $)?, likes/dislikes?

Thanks for the replies. We will be staying in the Dupont area at Embassy Suites. I am open to any restaurant suggestions as long as the food quality is good!

Any ideas are greatly appreciated as we are traveling with 6 people with ages ranging from 11 - 78.

After I emailed you about making reservations for the Monuments by Moonlight, I call them to make sure I wouldn't be too late if I waited to call the "day of" for the reservation. Even though the "day of" might be okay, they recommend calling about 2 days in advance...early in the day. They take reservations beginning at 8:30 a.m. So I'll start checking weather reports a couple of days before we leave. By the way, I did this tour a couple of years ago and it was awesome. ((y)) The Korean War Memorial and the Roosevelt Memorial are better at night...I think.

I, too, am traveling with 6 people. I'm taking my mom, two aunts, a cousin and my uncle, who is a WWII veteran. (ages 58-80) The main reason for going is for him to see the new WWII Memorial. **==

A couple of weeks ago I asked for casual restaurant suggestions near the White House and the following were suggested:
Old Ebbitt's Grill (for breakfast)
Georgia Browns (for dinner or Sunday brunch)
Kinkead's on Pennsylvania Ave.
Occidental Grill by the White House next to the Willard Hotel
Equinox on Connecticut Ave.
Reaves (for breakfast)
