Washington Coast-Ruby Beach vs. Rialto Beach

I have read through many threads and trip reports on this forum. Everyone seems torn on which one they like better. Are these 2 beaches similar or different? What makes one better than the other?

If you have visited both, what did you like about them? I will be closer to Rialto Beach during my 3-day visit, but want to know if I should drive down to Ruby also.

Thanks!

Just returned from the Washington coast yesterday. Although we didn't get to Ruby Beach (heavy rain) we did stay in Forks for 4 nights, which is close to Rialto Beach.

You're able to drive right up to Rialto, but your access to the tidal pools is limited by the tide. Other than the pools, it's a gravely beach, as the pile of rocks on my kitchen floor can attest to. To walk very far, you must cross Ellen Creek, which is at least knee deep.

Now, having said that, our FAVORITE beach was Second Beach. It's a half mile walk down through the forest, but what a gorgous beach. It was quite wide even at high tide, and sand soft enough to walk barefoot. We were told it was 2 miles long, but not sure it's that far.

Please ask if you have more questions. Where are you staying near Rialto?

Thanks for the info! We are staying in La Push at Ocean Park. I had heard we would need to cross some streams and wondered how deep they would be.
