Warren-area restaurant for 90th birthday

I am looking for a restaurant in the Warren-area for my uncle's 90th birthday. He is the last of his generation and I want this to be a special occasion for him. Has anyone been to the Cutting Board on Schoeherr near 12 Mile? http://www.thecuttingboard.us This is the one place near-by his home that looked nice. Any other suggestions?

Andiamo! in Warren is a good choice. This is the original Andiamo in Michigan and it has since expanded into a small local chain. I worked on the original concept years ago and think it has held up well.

Thanks, Honoria for the recommendation. I was not aware that this was a chain with so many locations convenient to family in Sterling Heights and Grosse Pointe Woods. The menu looks great. I will share it my siblings and see what they think.

I agree with Honoria Andiamo is a fantastic idea. They have really good food and I love their chicken dishes. At 16 mile w. of Rochester Road is Larco's. They have very good Italian food. Family owned. They have been in business over 50 years. 17 mile and John R is another great restaurant. Mario's. The original is on second ave. in Detroit. They are know for great steaks.

Good luck and what a nice way to show your Uncle you love him.

Theresa in Detroit.

Theresa, thanks for the recommendations and the second vote for Andiamo's. Everyone in our family loves Italian food, so we will give Andiamo's serious consideration. Is Andiamo's a family-friendly place? As this is a family gathering, I am concerned about the children in the group - 4-year-old twin boys (generally well-behaved). Also, have you hear anything about the Cutting Board? Just curious.

I've never heard about the Cutting Board, but Andiamos is universally recognized as a great restaurant. I've had many great meals at several of them.

One of the Andiamos has a showroom where they have performers. Check the schedule. They have sort of the old timers there a lot (we saw the Smothers Brothers) and that might be something your uncle would enjoy.

The Cutting Board is "hit or miss". I've been there and had great food and great service. More times than not, the service has been mediocre and the food not so good. No real ambiance to the place either.

I would suggest going with Andiamos.

I agree that Andiamo is a good choice for your family celebration.

Another possibility is Picano's on Rochester Road and 17 Mile Road. They also have excellent Italian food and have been in business for many years. Picano's is a little more family friendly than Andiamo's.

I like Andiamo's, but I find the one on 14 Mile and Van Dyke a little "stiff".

Happy Birthday to your Uncle!

The original chef at Andiamo was originally at Picano's. I love their Mama Assunta made with veal and green olives. Heaven. Haven't been for years, I'm glad it is still around.
