WARNING-Vegas

Never hang your purse on the hook in the bathrooms. My purse got stolen. You never think it will happen to you but they are out there just waiting. Don't learn the hard way like I did. It puts a damper on your vacation and security at the Paris Hotel does not care!

Paul Rabe Mar 8th, 2000 06:38 AM

I would expand that warning to this: never leave your purse, wallet, bag, ANYTHING containing valuables out of sight for even a few seconds; anywhere on this planet, whether on vacation or in your home town. Whoever "they" are, "they" are present everywhere.

Wow Kim, that really is a shame. I must say that whenever I travel, I never, ever, ever carry a purse. Nor do I wear a fanny pack. I have what I call a 'wallet on a string' that I always leave around my neck and never take off. It is small enough to wear under jackets as well. If I don't want to carry it, I put things in my pockets, which may not be the safest, but so far, knock on wood, I have never been pick pocketed. Hopefully you were still able to salvage your vacation and have a good time.

Kim, was the hook in the bathroom inside the stall, or outside while you were inside? If it was inside (with you) then how was the purse stolen? If it was outside while you were inside, then I fully agree with Paul! You never, ever leave it out of your sight/reach. I hope it didn't contain everything for the rest of your vacation.

They Mar 8th, 2000 11:27 AM

It was inside while she was inside but I (they) just reached over and snatched it from the hook while she (her) was taking care of business. Always be aware of me (they)!!!!!! <BR>Love always <BR>Me (they)(whoever?)

Lori Mar 14th, 2000 08:34 PM

Lori, I was inside and my purse was inside on the hook. I do know NOW what your talking about the "wallet on a string" and I have bought one just today thanks for the info. After that happened I have notice every hook in every bathroom and most hooks are further down on the door. But know matter where the hook is I won't be hanging my purse or anything on there anymore!

I am very sorry to hear of your unfortunate experience. Actually it could happen anywhere and not just in Las Vegas. <BR> <BR>I do have to warn folks though that Las Vegas has many predators just looking for opportunities such as this. Be very cautious at all times when you are carrying anything valuable. The predators often work in pairs where one will distract you while the other robs you.

Gail Perry Mar 16th, 2000 07:24 AM

Living in Las Vegas, I've been aware for years not to leave my purse on a bathroom hook, however here's what I don't understand: <BR> <BR>At Paris the bathroom doors are from the floor to the ceiling -- at least in the 2 or 3 bathrooms I was in. So it would be impossible when there's no room at the top or bottom.

Polly Mar 16th, 2000 08:23 PM

I saw a security 'expert' on a tv show once talking about this very thing...and others. His recommendation is to always choose a bathroom stall that has one side against the wall...not against another stall on both sides. That way you can rest your purse on the floor within arms reach against the wall safe from people who prey on others' trust and oversights. <BR>

Gail Mar 20th, 2000 02:29 PM

Gail, you are right the door goes from the top to the floor and that is why it is unsafe. When you are in there the sides do not go all the way up so that is why it is easy to reach over without anyone on the outside to see you. I hope you understand that by the way I explained it. I think it would be better if the door did not go all the way up that way if someone reached over on the inside it would be seen. Kim
