Wanted: Miami Airport Hotel recommendation

Need suggestions for overnight stay at Miami Airport - prefer hotel at the airport

JeanH Feb 20th, 2011 12:39 PM

When I have to do an overnight stay by an airport, I use either Priceline or Hotwire. Decide on the amenities you need (for us, it a bar, restaurant, and shuttle), do some reading on the booking sites, biddingfortravel.com or betterbidding.com and you'll save a bunch of money.

I've found airport hotels to be pretty similar, if you stick to the same star level.

If you are looking for a hotel connected to the airport you can check out miahotel.com

I used Hampton Inn Blue Lagoon - about 10min ride from the terminal by hotel van.

The area immediately around MIA is truly scary - if you are planning only to be in your hotel and not venture out, then go for it. But don't expect anything within walking distance. Perhaps there is a side of the surrounding airport area I have not seen, but the parts I have I would feel uncomfortable staying at.

If you stay across the highway (836/Dolphins expressway) near the Blue Lagoon area it is fine. Its mostly commercial office buildings with a Hilton, Sofitel, and some others. Not scary at all. I know the Hilton has a free shuttle. Sure the rest do too.
Google maps gave me this...

My husband worked in the Blue Lagoon area for years. Its is now where Burger King HQ is located.

I've stayed in the Miami Airport Hotel (located in Terminal E) several times. It's clean, comfortable and very convenient.
