Wanted: Ferry from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth - but the CAT stopped running
Me, my hubby and a couple of friends are visiting Maine/Nova Scotia this October. We had planned on taking the CAT from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth (we were really looking forward to that experience), but now that the CAT isn't running we're not sure exactly what to do. Is there another ferry service around there?

not really, nothing similar anymore. You have to drive around to get to Nova Scotia.

You can drive up New Brunswick, and take the ferry from Saint John to Digby. If you were going to Nova Scotia for a couple of days this would be fine. If you were thinking of a day trip, its probably too long to be fun.

If it was just the boat ride you were after, you can take a ferry from Bar Harbor to Winter Harbor, to see the Schoodic peninsula section of the park, although you might want to check if the shuttles run in Winter Harbor at that time of year. It's just a passenger ferry. More info here:

Okey dokey. That was kind of what I was thinking. We are planning on spending a couple of days in Nova Scotia, so taking the ferry from Saint John to Digby will probably be the way to go. Thanks for the info!

The CAT isn't running any more? Or just in that season?

We remember when the "normal" (slower) ferry stopped running, unfortunately, but the CAT was still there last time we checked a year or two ago, even if it was rather costly (we felt) and not convenient in terms of scheduling.

Too bad if that last shortcut across to NS is no more.

Here is the link to the statement that they are no longer operating service for those that weren't aware:

Have been taking the Ferry from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth off and on since 1955, old ferry (Bluenose), newer ferry, and the Cat. This trip will be sorely missed. One wonders how the economy of Yarmouth is doing now, and why the government of Canada is so shortsighted. I guess it doesn't care about US tourists.

I think that boat is now being used as a ferry in the Bahamas, to some of the outislands, Eleuthera, The Abacos, Harbor Island, Spanish Wells and I think Cat Island. The name on the boat is the BoHengy. So instead of going to Canada, go to the Bahamas, and take the ferry there instead, lol, just teasing.
