Want Info on Hawaii?? We love it there!
 

My husband and I have been there several times and visited all of the islands except Lanai. We have enjoyed many activities and stayed many places. I will try to answer any question.

We have heard so many conflicting things, we are getting confused. We are planning on going to Maui and Kauai in April 2001, We have heard that on Kauai, the south side, is the least rainy and Poipu has the calmer beaches, now I am reading the opposite. We planned on staying at the Hyatt in Kauai. <BR> <BR>Maui is totally confusing us, we were looking at Kaanapali beach, but now not sure which beach is best Kapula, Kaanapali or Wailea. We were originally looking at the Embassay Suites, but now having second thoughts and looking at the Hyatt or Sheraton, we don't want a real crowded feel, but a nice pool and beach area are musts. My husband loves the ocean, loves to bodysurf, I have heard bad things about the coral at the beach at the Embassy. Which beach is best and which hotel????? <BR>

Crystal, RE: Kauai <BR>Hey...If you can afford to stay at the Hyatt in Poipu, by all means do so. Beautiful place...Poipu is pretty much nice year round, hence the nickname "The Sunny Side". <BR> <BR>The Princeville area is a bit on the wet side during the winter months. But it is still gorgeous. <BR>Remember, the reason the island is called "The Garden Isle" is due to the rains. <BR>A tip I offer to friends is if it is raining on your side of the island, call a business on the other side and, be polite, ask them if it is raining there. I am sick of everyone complaining about all of the Hawaii posts. Look, if you don't like it, get lost. I don't like travel agents preying on people anymore than you, but you guys are being so paranoid Mulder from the X-Files would tell you to calm down!!

About the Embassay Suites, great Resort <BR>but bad beach. I wouldnt worry so much about the beach unless you are going to spend alot of time at the Resort. The pool is pretty nice and is very close to the beach. The Embassay is Oceon front property compared to Wailea beaches, which are back away from the beach. The Embassay is also very close to many activities you are going to want to do, like visit Lahaina to shop, take boat trips, and eat at its restaurants.

And you need to go pitch your travel business elsewhere, Kal the travel agent! You can lurk, you can skulk, you can try to hide behind a fake Joe Traveler mask, but everyone here knows you're an agent with something to sell. The ONLY posts about Hawaii here are planted by travel agents, pushing the schmaltzy, touristy crap on everyone. <BR> <BR>Better tread very, very carefully here, as Fodorites have already demonstrated how they feel about travel agents and their pitches. Out of 10 posts- 1 question, 2 legitimate answers! 7 with no helpful information at all!!! And, Crystal hasn't even answered anything! SAD! I used to like to read these. I wait for 5 minutes for it to load to read this! Hope it gets better!

We are leaving next Monday, May 8, 2000, never been there. 4 days in maui and 3 days kauai any suggestions for dinner and/or day activities? We will have are own car, but since it is for such a short period of time we want to make the best of it.

I think what inflames the self-appointed travel agent police on this forum is unsolicited posts like this one. Crystal is undoubtedly just trying to be helpful. But I'm sure we can all agree that some people have posted messages like this one for the primary purpose of drumming up some sort of business. That's annoying. <BR> <BR>Contrast this post with a garden-variety trip report. The person takes the time to offer lots of details and opinions, so you know he/she is really just a traveler who took a trip and is willing to share the experience. You can take the advice or not, but there is no suggestion that anyone contact the person for help. I doubt anyone could make a rational argument that such behavior is inappropriate. <BR> <BR>Could the best approach be for people to refrain from posting just to say that they are experts in a particular place. Heck, I could do such a post on my hometown too, but what would the point be? If you have info on a place, I think it is better to do a trip report or just answer specific inquiries on the site. <BR> <BR>Just an idea.

You hit the nail on the head there, Cindy. I've been visiting this forum for a couple of years, and until recently, people here posted questions and others tried to answer them. Now we have posts from those claiming to be experts about a certain place and inviting inquiries. It reeks of commercialism, especially when posters blatantly suggest that you BUY something!! It's bad enough that they deliberately try to steer people towards one thing and away from another, all in the name of profit for themselves. <BR> <BR>First hand travel accounts definitely earn the most credibility on this site. Those with laundry lists of places to stay and eat, plus all the tours to take have all that info at hand for a reason: they are PAID to have it at hand and dispense it as often as possible.
