WALT DISNEY WORLD FOR MATURE COUPLES
 

MY HUSBAND & I AND ANOTHER COUPLE ARE GOING TO WDW IN OCT. WHAT EVENTS WOULD WE ENJOY THE MOST. WE'RE IN OUR EARLY 60'S.

Sorry, teriberi and all other grownups who think WDW is wonderful, but I just don't see "mature" and "Disney" in the same sentence. But maybe that's the point if you're in your 60s and never been before. (Last time I went, the most enjoyable moment was when we finally emerged out the exit gate and reentered a world without 6' mute cartoon characters and a voice-over over everything telling us how happy we were but stay inside the ropes.)

Epcot has the food and wine festival in October and is alot of fun. The wine and food make for a great way to spend the afternoon. As for mature and disney....just let the kid come out and you will have a great time. The older I get the more I enjoy it....though at a slower pace than some!

I'd also recommend Epcot for the older set. If you like wildlife then be sure to check out the Animal Kingdom Lodge -- unfortunately, I've not been to the AK park but the Lodge is just wonderful and very laid-back. Expensive so not so overrun with kids.

I was totally shocked to learn that the Magic Kingdom had become the vacation destination of choice for my aunt/uncle in their 60's. They never had kids and started going a few years ago and now go every year. I do agree that Epcot and Animal Kingdom may be more "adult" but my relatives LOVE the Magic Kingdom.

I second the recommendation on spluring for a stay at the lodge at AK. What can beat seeing giraffes, etc. forage outside your bedroom window?!?!

My husband and are both in our 40's and have no children. WDW is one of our 8 vacations every year...we just love it.

Keep in mind Octover is still hot in Orlando, but the weather is beautiful and not nearly as hot as it is right now. Regarding hotels, the AKL is very nice but it is not close to anything but the Animal Kingdom Park, which is still new (as far as WDW)...so you must take a bus everywhere. I can give you insite on our 2 favorite hotels. First is the Grand Floridian, which is our absolute favorite. The best restaurants are in this hotel or are only a monorail ride away. I cannot say enough about this hotel, service and beautiful rooms. If it is in your budget, I would also recommend staying on the Concierge Level, which offers planning services, reservation making and breakfast, drinks, snacks and cocktails. I also find less children here at this hotel. The other hotel would be the Polynisian which is also on the monorail and a short walk to the Epcot Monorail. It is also a beautiful hotel with great views. Being in a hotel on the monorail is so convenient.

There is so much about WDW, the best place to start you planning is by going to www.disboards.com, from there you will learn so much and will be able to figure out what is best for you.

check out the wine festival at epcot; go to cirque du soleil, all of epcot and much of animal kingdom might be of interest. depending on the 'inner child' aspect, you may also enjoy magic kingdom. altho we are in our 50's we still like going there, seeing the parades and a few select rides. My personal favorite is Space Mountain!

I am 54 and LOVE Disney World. I enjoy going on most of the rides including Rock'n Rollercoaster and the Tower of Terror at MGM, Space Mountain at the Magic Kingdom and Test Track at EPCOT. I take a pass on Mission Space though - I don't think that ride will agree with me.

My husband is not quite as passionate about Disney as I am, but he humors me and will go once a year. We enjoy staying at the Boardwalk Inn. I love being on the Boardwalk and being able to walk to EPCOT and MGM (or take the water taxi). A lovely location and I hope to enjoy WDW until I'm just too old to get myself there :)

I am 56 and prefer going to WDW without children!! I love all four of the parks.

I LOVE the electric light parade in the Magic Kingdom. Also Fantasmic at MGM and Illuminations at Epcot. These are all in the evening and are wonderful.

Consider getting one of the "WDW for Adults" books that are av ailable.

My husband and I have gone several times on our own and have a motto-eat, drink and be merry! Especially during the food and wine festival at EPCOT. Check out their website for a schedule of events if you enjoy wine at all as they have special wine dinners and tastings but you have to book in advance. Check out the Adventurers Club in Pleasure Island--it's modelled after a 1920s hunt club and has funny skits throughout the night.

All of the above mentioned attractions are great. I would also reccommend the Kilimanjaro safaris at AK and Pirates of the Caribbean at MK.
