Walt Disney World, Florida in September.
 

My friends and I(from Scotland) are travelling to Orlando in September, mainly to visit Disney World. I've heard that in September Disney tend to shut many of the rides for maintenance, is this true?

I would appreciate any general suggestions/comments you might have about Walt Disney World in September.

Both times my family went was in late September (the last time 1996). The crowds are relatively moderate to light. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was closed on both occasions and the last time one of the minor attractions in Epcot was closed. Get the "Unofficial Guide to Disney World" from the bookstore. It is a hoot to read and offers a lot of good advice. We stayed on-property at the Carribean Beach Resort and loved it! We took two grandchildren to WDW last September and didn't notice that any of the attractions were closed. The crowds were not bad but the heat was terrible. I'll second the suggestion for the "Unofficial Guide".

I travel to Disney World-Orlando three times a year and will be visiting again Sept. 9,10 and 11. This usually is not a busy time of the year however, crowds have increased due to the 25th anniversary celebration. In all my visits, I have not ever seen a substantial amount of rides down for repair. Disney World, as I am sure you know, runs a first class operation with the visitor in mind at all times. When I visited in May, only one ride was closed. I don't think you will be disappointed. Enjoy your vacation.

September is a great time to visit Disney. While they sometimes do refurbish rides in the off seasons, they try and time the downtimes so that they aren't all down at the same time, and then most may only shut down for a few days to a few weeks. You can call the park, or check their web site, to find out what's scheduled to close when.
(20,000 Leagues is a special case, it has been closed for several years now.) In all my trips there I've never seen more than two or three rides not operating at a time.

I have spent the past ten years vacationing at WDW. By far, my best recommedation on lodging is the Wilderness Lodge. It is a very unique resort. Plan to spend at least one full day at the Magic Kingdom, maybe two. Plan to spend two days at Epcot. They also have three water parks and I would spending a day going to all of the resorts. It is a great place to spend a vacation but take plenty of money. If I can be of any help at all, let me know.

I spent 7 weeks near Disney World last year. I was there in September and this was a good month to go. Try to stay at a Disney Resort if at all possible. It's like you never leave the parks. I don't think you have to worry much about attractions being closed. They almost always have something closed but there is plenty to see and keep you busy. Very busy. Get there early. Before the park opens and ride the attractions that tend to get busy. Have fun!

September is a good time to visit. Here in the South many of the children return to school in August, so the only vacationers here are the families from north so it is not as crowded. The theme parks tend to close earlier after Labor Day. I suggest you get to the parks early, stay until after lunch, return to your hotel and lay by the pool and return later in the day--this way here you will beat the heat!!! Enjoy your trip!!!!

Hope you have a great time in Florida. I'm from Glasgow originally. I know of a place to stay close to Disney (about 4 miles away) - reasonably priced and with pool, etc. The area has lots of fun things to do. I'd be glad to give you more info on the cottage that is in Kissimmee.

I just read your reply to David concerning Disney World. We have reservations at Wilderness Lodge the week before Thanksgiving. The charges at 204.00/nite seem high to me. What do you think? For a 6 nite stay, what do you think of the 5 Day Hopper Pass? We have a Magic Kingdom Club card, but it is not honored at WL. My husband and I (no kids) would appreciate any advice you could give, especially if you know how to obtain a discount room rate. Thankyou.
